NBA First Basket Prop Pick: Domantas Sabonis, Keegan Murray

The Sacramento Kings will host the Golden State Warriors in Game 5 of their first round series on Wednesday night. Domantas Sabonis (33% opening tip win rate) will square off against Kevon Looney (54% win rate) for the opening tip-off.  Looney has won five of seven tip-offs versus Sabonis this season, but Sabonis has won the past two.

One major point of interest in this game is the health of De'Aaron Fox, though it sounds like he'll play through a fractured finger.

In eight games between these teams, each team has scored the first basket four times.  For the Warriors, Andrew Wiggins (twice), Looney and Jordan Poole all have cashed first basket tickets, while Sabonis (three times) and Keegan Murray have cashed first basket tickets for the Kings.

Sabonis has actually scored the Kings' first basket in six of the eight games versus the Warriors this season. In total, Sabonis scored the Kings' first field goal in 35% of the games he started this season.

I give Sabonis about a 40% chance to win the opening tip Wednesday. The odds on DraftKings (which excludes free throws) are significantly higher than FanDuel.  I'll take Sabonis and pair him with Murray, who was hot in Game 4 and scored 23 points for the Kings. Murray isn't a frequent first basket scorer, but his odds are too good to pass up in this matchup.
