Indiana vs Michigan College Basketball Betting Preview
Indiana Basketball
Indiana is sliding. The Hoosiers are 12-6 overall and 3-4 in Big Ten play, currently riding a three-game losing streak.
Now they head into their next game facing one of the most dominant teams in college basketball, on the road in a hostile environment.
Indiana’s offense has struggled to find any rhythm over its last two games, averaging just 58.5 points per contest.
It all starts with Tucker DeVries. Over the last five games, DeVries is averaging 8.8 points per game, reaching double figures only once while shooting 35% from the field.
One recurring issue with DeVries is foul trouble. In seven games this season, he's committed four or more fouls, including four of the last six.
Indiana needs DeVries on the floor for 35-plus minutes and back to his usual scoring form to have any chance against this Michigan defense.
Meanwhile, Lamar Wilkerson has been excellent for Indiana this season, but he’ll need help. Michigan will make slowing him down a priority and dare someone else to beat it.
Michigan Basketball
There was a point this season where I thought I was watching the 1990-91 UNLV team with Michigan beating the hell out of opponents night in and night out.
Michigan is 16-1 overall and 6-1 in Big Ten play after a 10-point win at Oregon.
This team beats you — and often dominates you — in a variety of ways.
In conference play, Michigan ranks first in tempo, has the most efficient offense, the best 2-point defense and the best block rate.
The Wolverines' defense has dipped slightly, but that was to be expected after playing like the Monstars for a full month.
Michigan is an extremely well-rounded, deep team. The Wolverines play nine guys, six of whom average double figures, and only one player in the rotation has a negative assist-to-turnover ratio (Morez Johnson Jr.).
Indiana vs. Michigan Betting Analysis
As great as Michigan has been all season, it ranks in the bottom half of the Big Ten in allowing offensive rebounds during conference play (33.2%). However, Indiana has been one of the worst offensive rebounding teams in league action (28.5%), so I expect Michigan to improve on that number at home.
As I alluded to earlier, Indiana is searching for answers offensively. I trust Wilkerson to continue being the guy, but Indiana is facing a defense that smothers opponents, especially around the rim.
The Hoosiers are trying to pick themselves up off the mat, and I don’t think that’s going to happen on the road against a loaded Michigan team.
Michigan hasn’t beaten an opponent by 20 or more in five games.
That streak ends Tuesday night.
My Pick: Michigan -16 (Play to -20)
