Indiana vs Rutgers College Basketball Betting Preview

Indiana Basketball

Indiana is now 12-7 overall and 3-5 in the Big Ten and in the midst of a four-game losing streak, with the average margin of deficit being 15 points per evening.

Lamar Wilkerson leads the team in scoring with 19 points per game, but he's been held to single digits in back-to-back outings while shooting 30% from the field and 1-of-10 from 3.

Tucker DeVries had zero points at halftime against Michigan after averaging eight points in the previous two matchups on a combined 5-of-19 shooting.

That means one thing: This is a slump-buster game for Wilkerson and DeVries.

Rutgers has the second-worst 3-point defense in the conference, so I expect Indiana to play through its two leading scorers throughout the game.

Rutgers Basketball

Rutgers is 9-10 overall and 2-6 in the Big Ten after dropping its last two games.

Tariq Francis leads the Scarlet Knights in scoring with 15 points per game, and he plays his best basketball at home.

Both conference wins for Rutgers have been overtime victories at Jersey Mike's Arena, and in both games, Francis scored 30 points.

Francis has a mid-2000s type of scoring profile. He likes to settle for a long 2-point jump shots off one-dribble pull-ups.

Rutgers is the worst 2-point shooting team in the conference, but it's playing one of the worst 2-point defenses in the conference. Thus, maybe it can get a home bump in that category.

Dylan Grant is my X-factor in this game for Rutgers. Grant is the team's second leading scorer at 11.5 points per game, and he hasn't reached double figures in five straight outings.

In defense of Grant, he battled flu-like symptoms for a couple of matchups during the stretch, but regardless, in the last five games, he's averaging 3.6 points on a combined 4-of-16 shooting (1-of-9 from 3).

The last time Grant scored in double figures was the Ohio State game, where he attempted 12 shots.

If Rutgers wants to win this game, Grant has to be aggressive and look for his shot.

Indiana vs. Rutgers Betting Analysis

The one thing Indiana has shown is that it can perform even with its two leading scorers having quiet games scoring the basketball.

The Hoosiers have the second-best 2-point and 3-point percentage in the conference and are facing the second-worst defense in the Big Ten.

As I alluded to earlier, this is a big-time bounce-back spot for Wilkerson and DeVries against this defense.

Also, our Action PRO projections have this spread at -10.5, giving us a nice grade of B on the Hoosiers.

Rutgers has had two separate three-game losing streaks on the season, and I expect it to have its third after losing to Indiana at home.

My Pick: Indiana -7.5
