La Salle vs Michigan College Basketball Betting Preview

La Salle Basketball

The Explorers are still figuring things out under Darris Nichols. They’re just 3-8 against Division I opponents and have dropped three contests to teams that rank outside the KenPom top 200.

Michigan is by far the best team they’ve played to date, and just the second power-conference squad (lost by 15 to Villanova).

La Salle’s primary strength on offense is rebounding and getting second chances, a laughable proposition against the stalwart frontline of Michigan.

Michigan Basketball

What can we say about Michigan that hasn’t already been said? The Wolverines are the best team in the country and on pace to be one of the best KenPom teams of all time.

They’ve destroyed their competition, whether it be mid-majors or power squads, winning by an average of 27 points and covering the spread by over 12 points per game. Domination is an understatement.

Michigan is fueled by the best defense in the country, anchored by a human eraser, Aday Mara.

Offensively, the Wolverines feature a top-five attack and rank second in 2-point field goal percentage. They have the best frontcourt in the country and a legit Player of the Year candidate in Yaxel Lendeborg.

Transition is key to Michigan’s overwhelming attack, an area La Salle has just been OK at stopping this season – and the Explorers haven’t seen the speed, size, or athleticism that Michigan has to offer.

In the halfcourt, Dusty May’s team can really do anything it wants, whether that’s play through the post, score off ball screens, or drive and kick to open shooters. La Salle will likely throw in some zone looks, but that will just open the glass to even more brutalization.

Simply put, La Salle ain’t stopping Michigan.

La Salle vs. Michigan Betting Analysis

La Salle gets most of its offensive looks at the rim, ranking top-20 nationally in field goal attempt rate. But it ranks just 328th in field goal percentage near the cup, and Michigan is one of the best rim-and-paint defenses on the planet.

La Salle’s offense is doomed if it can’t score inside the arc off post-ups, duck-ins, put-backs and basket cuts. The Explorers can't shoot a lick, ranking 360th nationally in 3-point attempt rate, the sixth-lowest in the country.

This game shouldn’t be close. If Michigan feels like it, it’ll win by 40.

If it instead decides to act like Scar and play with its mouse, allowing it to ultimately scatter away harm-free, the Explorers might have a chance. I’ll bank on the former and lay the points.

My Pick: Michigan -38.5
