Michigan State Basketball

It's officially March, which is why it should be no surprise that Michigan State is concluding its regular season schedule as one of the hottest teams in college basketball. The eighth-ranked Spartans enter their final game of the regular season with a 25-5 overall record.

After a skid that resulted in Michigan State losing three of four games, it has bounced back in a big way, winning five consecutive outings, including victories over UCLA and Purdue.

Per ESPN Bracketologist Joe Lunardi, the Spartans are currently projected to be a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Jeremy Fears Jr. leads the charge for a Michigan State offense scoring over 78 points per game this season. Fears has been remarkable all season long, posting over 15 points per contest, along with over nine assists on average.

Fears is Tom Izzo’s floor general, with the entire Spartans offense running through him. His 9.1 assists per contest rank first nationally.

While Izzo is typically known for his elite defensive units, Michigan State ranks inside the top 30 nationally in offensive efficiency rating, per KenPom.

Alongside Fears, the uber-athletic Coen Carr has played very well as of late and is scoring over 11 points per game this season. The 6-foot-6 guard is amongst the most athletic players in all of college basketball.

On the other end of the floor, Carr is a high-pressure, lockdown defender and one of the premier on-ball defenders in the sport.

On the defensive end of the floor, Izzo once again boasts a top-tier unit, ranking 10th nationally in efficiency rating, per KenPom. Sparty is allowing its opponents just 66 points per contest, maintaining a very impressive +13 scoring margin.

Izzo’s interior defense has been stellar thanks to the grand defensive efforts shown by the towers in his frontcourt: forwards Jaxon Kohler and Carson Cooper. The Michigan State frontcourt boasts a ton of size and physicality, with its forwards serving as two solid rim protectors.

Sunday afternoon’s matchup versus Michigan will be a fantastic test for Sparty’s interior defense, as it'll be matched up with a terrifying Wolverines frontcourt that has overwhelming size and big-time physicality.

After suffering its second defeat of the season to Duke on a neutral floor just two weeks ago, Dusty May’s Wolverines have bounced back to elite form with three consecutive victories.

Elliot Cadeau is the engine operating an extremely explosive Wolverines offense that's scoring nearly 90 points per game. The junior has stepped right into place as Michigan’s floor general and has proven to be an elite two-way player.

The point guard is averaging nearly 11 points while recording 5.5 assists per game, which ranks inside the top-35 nationally.

After Michigan sixth-man L.J. Cason suffered a season-ending ACL injury in the first half of Michigan’s game against Illinois last week, there's no doubt that Cadeau’s importance to this Wolverines bunch will be even greater as the NCAA Tournament nears.

While Michigan’s elite guard play is a big component of the team’s overwhelming success, it's the Wolverines' frontcourt that's been an absolute nightmare matchup for opposing defenses.

Yaxel Lendeborg is the leading scorer for Michigan, helping the Wolverines to a fourth-place rank nationally in offensive efficiency, per KenPom.

Morez Johnson Jr. is having himself quite the season, as well. Johnson is posting 13-point, seven-rebound per game figures and has been even more effective on the other end of the floor, standing at the heart of an elite defensive frontcourt.

Johnson teams up with 7-foot-3 Aday Mara to create a twin-towers look up front.

While the Wolverines have one of the top offenses in college basketball, Michigan has been even better on the defensive end of the floor, ranking second nationally in defensive efficiency rating, per KenPom.

Michigan State vs. Michigan Betting Analysis

Sunday afternoon’s top 10 clash will be must-watch television, and an Elite Eight-esque matchup featuring two experienced rosters with exceptional coaching.

While the Spartans have been red-hot as of late, there's no better test for Izzo’s bunch than going on the road to face arguably the best team in the country in Michigan.

I love May’s Wolverines in this spot, and I'm holding a +1100 ticket on Michigan to cut down the nets in a month’s time.

While Izzo’s Spartans are a tough team to fade in the month of March, they're likely due for regression when heading on the road.

I'll be looking to back the Wolverines to cover both their first-half spread and also the full-game spread in Sunday’s duel for state supremacy.

My Pick: Michigan 1H ATS | Michigan -10.5
