Oregon State Basketball

Wayne Tinkle keeps his coaching career in Corvallis alive for at least one more day with Oregon State beating San Francisco in the quarterfinals. The program announced that Tinkle was fired, but he decided to coach in the WCC Tournament.

Oregon State has plenty of interior length, so that should help. The rotation features five players who are 6-foot-10 or taller, and all of them play real minutes.

The 6-foot-11 Johan Munch and Jorge Diaz Graham are giving up weight to Gonzaga's Graham Ike, but they can battle him from a length standpoint.

They have real offensive identity problems. If Oregon State can't hit 3s, it has no chance of competing — or even cracking 65 against this vaunted Zags defense. The Beavers attempt 3s on 44% of field goal attempts and shoot a strong 35% from deep.

They have a trio of shooters who account for most of the positive numbers: Josiah Lake, Dez White and Isaiah Sy. All of them shoot better than 36% from deep, but Sy and White are strictly shooters.

The other scoring option is getting to the foul line, as Oregon State boasts a 43.7% free throw rate. The Zags don't send opponents to the foul line much, so I expect them to neutralize the free-throwing shooting success of the Beavs.

Gonzaga Basketball

Gonzaga had yet another dominant season under Mark Few. The Bulldogs are 28-3 and went 16-2 in WCC action. No surprise, one of the losses came to their bitter rivals, Saint Mary's. However, the other loss was a stunner, as Portland beat Gonzaga.

Offense is usually the strength of a Gonzaga team — this year is a bit different, though. The Bulldogs are 28th in offensive efficiency, the lowest mark for the program since 2014.

The issue is the lack of true shot-creators and shooting options around All-American center Graham Ike.

The Zags rely on point guard combination Mario Saint-Supery and Braeden Smith — neither of whom is consistent. Saint-Supery shoots 44% from deep but struggles with decision-making and scoring inside (40% on 2s).

Ike averages 19.5 PPG — and he’s one of two healthy Zags who average double-digit points. The other is Tyon Grant-Foster, who brings most of his value on the defensive end.

Grant-Foster and Emmanuel Innocenti are starting at the 3 and 4, which boosts the Zags defense but limits their offense.

The Zags are one of the top defensive squads in the country, ranking 10th in defensive efficiency.

The Bulldogs thrive on forcing turnovers and limiting teams to difficult 2-point shots. Opponents shoot just 46% from 2-point range against the Zags, and they force turnovers at a 20% clip.

Oregon State vs. Gonzaga Betting Analysis

The Beavers have to find a better way to stop Ike in this battle. The star big man scored 35 points in the lone meeting between the two, a game Gonzaga won, 81-61.

I'm rolling with the under here. The Beavers rank 300th in adjusted tempo, and if they have an off shooting night, they'll finish in the high 50s or 60s.

Gonzaga will be able to score on this Oregon State defense. I just don't think the Bulldogs will score more than 85 points due to their lack of shooting.

My Pick: Under 145.5 (-110)
