Texas A&M vs Vanderbilt College Basketball Betting Preview

Texas A&M Basketball

Aggie head coach Bucky McMillan is in his first season in College Station after a pretty impressive stint with Samford, having led it to the Big Dance just two seasons ago.

After a sluggish start to this season, dropping two of his first four games, the Aggies rebounded nicely, winning 15 of their next 17 matchups.

Texas A&M had an impressive 17-4 record heading into February, but unfortunately, it's hit another skid, losing its next three games.

While Texas A&M appears to be on a great track for an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament, the Aggies have several difficult opponents on a loaded SEC schedule over the next few weeks.

Leading the way for the Aggies' offense is 6-foot-7 senior forward Rashaun Agee, who's posting 14 points and nearly nine rebounds per game.

Agee sits at the center of a small Texas A&M frontcourt and a starting five that features just one forward amongst four guards. The Aggies play extremely up-tempo and have a run-and-gun style that better suits their uber-athletic guard play.

The Aggies' backcourt features 6-foot-6 sophomore guard Ruben Dominguez, a highly-touted prospect out of Spain who's averaging 12 points per game this season. Behind the stellar play from fellow guards Rylan Griffen and former Creighton star Pop Isaacs, Texas A&M implements its “Bucky Ball” offensive-style to a tee.

McMillan had tremendous success with his three-point-heavy offensive philosophy throughout his tenure at Samford, which was consistently one of the best mid-majors in the country over the last few seasons.

His “Bucky Ball” offensive philosophy centers on high-volume 3-point shooting and efficient shot-taking inside the lane — mainly layups, dunks and free throws — over the mid-range.

Texas A&M ranks 40th in the country in offensive efficiency, according to KenPom, and is scoring an incredible 92 points per game.

McMillan is far more than just an offensive-minded head coach. He thrives on the other end of the floor with a defensive philosophy centered around extremely aggressive full-court press and defensive trapping schemes designed to disrupt opponents’ offensive flow, forcing turnovers as a result.

The first-year head coach’s high-intensity approach on both ends of the floor is the primary reason the Aggies have arguably the deepest rotation in the entire country. “Bucky Ball” constitutes running for all 40 minutes and requires a very deep bench to sustain his high-energy, fast-tempo style of play.

Texas A&M operates efficiently under a sense of selflessness, ball movement and a lack of reliance on a single star player. The Aggies' defense also ranks in the top 35 in offensive efficiency, according to Haslametrics.

Vanderbilt Basketball

The 15th-ranked Commodores head into Saturday afternoon’s SEC battle with a 20-4 overall record.

Vanderbilt head coach Mark Byington was hired in March of 2024 after the program parted ways with Jerry Stackhouse. The former NBA star failed to make a single NCAA Tournament in his five seasons in Nashville.

Byington was a big-time hire after posting an 82-36 record in four seasons at James Madison, the last of which he led the Dukes to a victory in the NCAA Tournament.

Byington picked up right where he left off, leading his Vanderbilt bunch to an NCAA Tournament appearance last season.

The Commodores have continued that success in 2025-26 with 16 consecutive victories before recording their first loss in mid-January.

Leading the charge for an impressive Vanderbilt offense is six-foot point guard Tyler Tanner. The sophomore is in his second season in Nashville and is scoring nearly 19 points per game. He's also recording 5.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game.

While the Commodores' backcourt deserves the most praise thus far (Duke Miles is great, but he's out for this game), Vandy has also received strong offensive production from its frontcourt, especially from senior forward Tyler Nickel. The former Hokie is averaging just shy of 15 points per contest.

Vanderbilt’s second-year head coach has wasted no time implementing an offensive philosophy that enabled James Madison to dominate the CAA and then the Sun Belt for several years.

The Commodores play a high-paced, elite offensive style characterized by rapid ball movement, high volume 3-point shooting and a “grab and go” transition offense.

The Vandy offense functions through constant off-ball motion, screens and the “Spain Pick & Roll,” which is utilized to create space and result in high efficiency shot-taking.

Byington’s intricate up-tempo offensive schematics have produced one of college basketball’s top offenses, ranking 14th in the country in offensive efficiency, according to KenPom.

Texas A&M vs. Vanderbilt Betting Analysis

I think this is a great spot to back Vanderbilt in the comfort of its own gym.

While the Aggies are very likely an NCAA Tournament team with an impressive offense, I have far more faith in the Commodores long-term, and this looks like a prime “get-right” opportunity at home coming off consecutive losses.

So, even though Miles and Frankie Collins are out, I still think it's a prime situational spot for the Dores.

I'll definitely be looking to back Vanderbilt against the spread and also will be looking to get some exposure on the Commodores ML in a few moneyline parlays.

My Pick: Vanderbilt -7.5
