Virginia vs Notre Dame College Basketball Betting Preview
Virginia Basketball
Virginia is coming off a tough loss in which it blew a 16-point lead to UNC. UVA now sits at 16-3 overall and 5-2 in the ACC.
Thijs De Ridder scored 20 points last game and does it all for the Cavaliers. But one aspect of his game that he needs to clean up is his turnovers.
Virginia has one of the highest turnover percentages in the ACC, and in the last three games, De Ridder has turned the ball over a combined 12 times.
This is a Malik Thomas game.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Thomas plays better on the road.
Thomas averages 13.5 points per game on the year, while putting up 18.4 points per game and shooting 47% from 3 on the road.
Notre Dame will do whatever it can to contain De Ridder in this matchup, which will lead to good looks for Thomas and other shooters in the offense.
Notre Dame Basketball
Notre Dame comes into this matchup at 11-9 overall and 2-5 in the ACC after its four-point win over Boston College.
In both conference wins, Notre Dame's defense has been stout, holding Stanford to 40 points and BC to 64.
The Fighting Irish boast the best 3-point defense in the ACC. That will be put to the test against an efficient Virginia offense.
Jalen Haralson has stepped up as the top scoring option with Markus Burton out, averaging 14.7 points per game. Haralson is looking to score around the rim, as 90 of his 105 makes this year have been in the paint.
Haralson has a tall task ahead of him, matching up against a Virginia defense that leads the ACC in 2-point defense.
Someone else is going to have to step up for Notre Dame if it wants to upset the Hoos on Tuesday night.
That someone has to be Braeden Shrewsberry. He scored 22 points in the win over Boston College and is a more than capable scorer. He is, though, very inconsistent. In five of his last seven games, he has scored in single digits.
Virginia vs. Notre Dame Betting Analysis
This is a tough spot for Notre Dame, as Virginia comes to town off a tough loss at home.
The Cavaliers are coming off a wake-up call, and a struggling Notre Dame is standing in its way.
UVA's kryptonite has been turning the ball over, but the good news for the Cavaliers is they're playing a defense that ranks dead last in the ACC in forcing turnovers and steal percentage.
Virginia bounces back in a big way on the road against Notre Dame and makes a statement win, showing that it's one of the best teams in the ACC.
Pick: Virginia -10
