As a college football sicko, it doesn't get any better than watching FIU vs. UConn in the middle of a hurricane.
This total has already moved from 46 to 40.5 and the spread has moved from UConn -11 to -7.
I can't wait to watch some mud ball. Turnovers, slipping and sloppy play all around. What's not to look forward to?
The FIU Panthers are 2-1, but their one loss came in a respectable showing against Louisiana Tech. However, they also had a big scare against Maine and won as a double-digit underdog against North Texas.
So, what do we make of all that?
Well, I'm not entirely sure.
FIU could be a massive wild card this season. I'm getting the vibe that it'll have some awesome wins and some crushing losses.
However, what I am sure of is that this team is better built to play in a hurricane. The Golden Panthers rank in the top 40 in rushing PPA and in the top 20 in Explosiveness on offense.
On the defensive side of the ball, they rank in the middle of the pack in rushing PPA allowed and Rushing Success Rate Allowed.
The Huskies played NC State tough before getting blown out on the road by Georgia State. UConn has been terrible against the run and ranks in the bottom 30 of both rushing PPA allowed and Rushing Success Rate Allowed.
The Huskies have also been terrible at running the ball and rank in the bottom 30 of both rushing PPA and Rushing Success Rate.
That doesn't bode well for Saturday's expected weather.
The Huskies are clearly trying to establish an identity as a team that moves the ball through the air. UConn is passing on 54% of its offensive plays, which ranks 33rd in the country.
Unfortunately, the Huskies aren't very effective through the air, as they rank 84th in passing PPA, 84th in Passing Success Rate and 83rd in Passing Explosiveness.
I don't see those metrics improving in inclement weather.

This is a matchup of perennial cellar dwellers in heavy rain.
Anything could happen.
UConn is probably the more talented team, but weather is an amazing equalizer.
I'm going to root for chaos and bet FIU to come up with another nice win.
