FIU Panthers Odds & Betting Guide — 2026 Season

FIU won more games last season than in any year since 2018. Then the quarterback, the leading receiver and the conference's Offensive Player of the Year all left.

Where FIU stands

Willie Simmons produced one of the best debut seasons in program history. The Panthers went 7-6 with a 5-3 conference mark, finishing tied for fourth in Conference USA after closing the regular season on a four-game winning streak. It delivered FIU's first bowl appearance since 2019, its first winning record since 2018 and its first victory over rival Florida Atlantic since 2016. The year ended with a 57-20 loss to UTSA in the First Responder Bowl.

FIU collected a program-record 14 All-CUSA selections, led by running back Kejon Owens, who became the first player in school history to win the conference's Offensive Player of the Year award.

Simmons has done this before, repeatedly. He is 73-30 across his head coaching career. Prairie View A&M went 14-19 in the three years before he arrived and 22-11 in his three seasons there. Florida A&M went 14-43 in the five years before him and 45-13 in his five, culminating in a black college national championship and a SWAC title in 2023. He spent 2024 coaching running backs at Duke before taking the FIU job.

The rebuild ahead is substantial. Quarterback Keyone Jenkins and leading receiver Alex Perry both transferred, and Owens departed after a 1,300-yard season. The offense that produced the turnaround is essentially gone.

Continuity sits on the other side of the ball. Jovan Dewitt enters his fourth season as defensive coordinator, the longest tenure of anyone on staff, and Nick Coleman returns for a second year running the offense.

Conference USA in 2026

The league lost two members this cycle, with Louisiana Tech leaving for the Sun Belt and UTEP for the Mountain West.

It also has a pattern worth knowing. The last two conference champions were both second-year FBS programs: Jacksonville State in 2024 and Kennesaw State in 2025. Delaware fits that profile in 2026 after going 5-1 at home and 4-2 in one-score games during its first FBS season.

FIU's schedule runs directly through all three. The Panthers travel to Jacksonville State on Oct. 13, to Delaware on Nov. 14 and to Kennesaw State on Nov. 21, meaning the two most recent champions and the most likely next one are all road games.

The non-conference slate opens at South Florida on Sept. 5, then brings Buffalo to Pitbull Stadium, sends FIU to Florida Atlantic for the Shula Bowl on Sept. 19 and closes with FCS Long Island University.

FIU 2026 futures odds

The market's view of FIU rests on how much of the 2025 improvement belonged to the departed players and how much belonged to Simmons.

The bull case is his record. Turning around two programs at previous stops, then producing FIU's best season in seven years immediately on arrival, is a pattern rather than a coincidence. He also kept his defensive coordinator, and Dewitt's fourth year gives that unit more continuity than most Group of Five defenses have.

The bear case is arithmetic. Losing a starting quarterback, a 1,300-yard back who won conference Player of the Year and the top receiver in one offseason removes most of what generated 7-6. Add three road games against the conference's recent and likely champions, and the schedule offers little cushion.

Betting FIU point spreads

Take the Sept. 19 Shula Bowl at Florida Atlantic, a rivalry FIU won last season for the first time since 2016. These are illustrative prices, so pull live college football odds for the real number:

The Panthers angle: FIU is the rare team whose coach is more established than its roster. Simmons has a documented history of outperforming expectations at every stop, while the 2026 roster has almost no returning production on offense. Those two facts pull opening numbers in opposite directions.

That usually means the market defaults to last year's results, which in FIU's case means pricing a team that no longer exists. Whether that overrates or underrates the Panthers depends entirely on how much you weight coaching. Three straight in that window is roughly a quarter of the season played in the softest pricing environment available.

The offensive uncertainty compounds it. Totals will open priced off a 2025 offense that lost its quarterback, leading rusher and leading receiver, which means the market is guessing on scoring output through at least September. Betting the FIU moneyline

A moneyline bet is a bet on who wins outright. Margin is irrelevant.

An illustrative home price:

• Opponent +130

Convert to implied probability and the margin shows. FIU at -150 breaks even around 60%; the opponent at +130 breaks even around 43.5%. Those sum past 100%, and the excess is the sportsbook's cut.

Every skill-position market on this roster opens on guesswork. Jenkins, Perry and Owens accounted for the overwhelming majority of FIU's offensive production, and all three are gone.
