Kansas vs Texas Tech Preview

Kansas Jayhawks Betting Preview: More Ups and Downs for Defense
A week after allowing 37 points and over 600 yards against Cincinnati, the Jayhawks looked like more of the same against UCF, as they allowed 20 first-half points.
However, the Jayhawks' defense stood tall, shutting out UCF in the second half and sealing the game with a goal line stand. That should the give the unit some confidence this week as it heads to Lubbock, where they'll have a tough task against the Red Raiders.
Defensively, Kansas ranks 45th in Success Rate Allowed, but it's also 92nd in Passing Success Rate Allowed and 117th in Explosiveness Allowed. The team is allowing 27.2 points per game against Power Four opponents.
That means Jalon Daniels may have to lead the way if the Jayhawks are going to pull off the upset.
The sixth-year senior has gotten off to a great start. He's completing 67% of his passes and has thrown 16 touchdowns and two interceptions while averaging 250 passing yards per game.
He's three touchdown passes away from his career-high and he's thrown at least two in five of six games this season.
His top target has been senior Emmanuel Henderson Jr. The Alabama transfer has 28 receptions for 488 yards and four touchdowns. He has touchdowns of 62, 93 and 75 yards this season and is Kansas' best bet of hitting explosive plays this week.
Texas Tech is 71st in Passing Explosiveness Allowed.
Kansas has held up well in pass protection, as Daniels has only been sacked five times. That'll be put to the test this week against an aggressive Texas Tech front.
Kansas fared well in Havoc Allowed and Havoc this season, but this is one game it won't have the advantage on either side of the ball.

Texas Tech Red Raiders Betting Preview: Historic Season Continues in Lubbock
Texas Tech has won 10 games or more just six times in school history (most recently in 2008 when it went 11-2 and made the Cotton Bowl).
This year's group is off to a 5-0 start, and though it may be a tad bit early to say that this will be Texas Tech's best team in school history, I'll say that this is the best Red Raiders team that I've seen on both sides of the line of scrimmage.
Texas Tech ranks fourth nationally in Havoc Allowed and is tied 30th in Havoc. It's tied for 40th nationally in sacks, with highly-sought transfers David Bailey (5.5 sacks) and Romello Height (2.5 sacks) leading the way.
Bailey and Height lead a defense that ranks in the top 10 nationally in scoring defense, total defense and Rushing Success Rate Allowed. Texas Tech has allowed just one touchdown in the first three quarters through its first five games.
However, high-powered offenses are usually the norm in Lubbock, and that remains the case this season, albeit with this year's group being more balanced than usual. Texas Tech ranks second nationally in scoring offense, fifth in Success Rate and leads the FBS in total offense.
Three backs are already over 200 yards this season. Sophomore Cameron Dickey leads the way with 330 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns. With a 69-yard receiving touchdown last week, he's found the end zone in every game this season.
Senior quarterback Behren Morton returned to the lineup last week after suffering a neck injury in the victory over Utah. He's averaging over 10 yards per attempt and 282 passing yards per game, and he has 12 touchdowns against three interceptions.
He's spread the ball around efficiently, as five Red Raiders have 15 receptions and at least 200 receiving yards.

Kansas vs Texas Tech Pick, Betting Analysis
Since joining the Big 12, Texas Tech has dominated this series, winning 23-of-25 meetings. This is the best Kansas team that's traveled to Lubbock, yet the Red Raiders are still a double-digit favorite because of their dominant start.
Texas Tech is one of just 15 remaining undefeated teams. Of that group, Texas Tech is the only team to win every game by at least 20 points this season.
As a result, it's 4-1 against the spread this season.
Conversely, Kansas is just 3-3 ATS this season, and this week, it likely won't get many stops. Texas Tech is second in point differential, winning by 37.4 points per game.
This week, a more modest victory will get the job done, but I'll be backing Texas Tech to move to 6-0 with another comfortable victory.
Pick: Texas Tech -14.5 (Play to -16.5)
