Records were made to be broken.
In an incredible turn of events for Michigan's online gaming sector, October 2025 has gone down in history as a record-breaking month.
The state's iGaming industry brought in a whopping $278.5 million, setting a new benchmark for monthly gross receipts.
This figure more than doubled the number generated in July and shattered the previous record of $263.3 million, set just a couple of months earlier in August — showcasing a strong upward trend in the online gaming market. The Wolverine State also broke a record in March.
Michigan Online Casino Numbers Have Been Continually Increasing
This impressive growth isn't just a flash in the pan.
Compared to October 2024, there's been a substantial year-over-year increase, with adjusted gross receipts (AGR) for iGaming up by 31.8%. The online casino sector in Michigan is thriving, thanks to a combination of increased player interest, a variety of game options, and strong backing from regulators.
The news comes on the heels of the announcement that BetRivers became the fourth online casino operator in Michigan to generate $20 million in a single month.
The Michigan Gaming Control Board reported that BetRivers hit the mark in September, alongside industry giants FanDuel, BetMGM, and DraftKings.
The Numbers Tell the Story in Michigan
Breaking down the numbers, iGaming's AGR for October 2025 reached $261.7 million, marking a 7.5% rise from September.
Sports betting also saw a notable surge, with revenues jumping from $43.6 million in September to $73.8 million in October. Together, iGaming and internet sports betting brought in a combined revenue of $352.3 million, a 16.4% increase from the previous month.
With such robust figures, it's no surprise that state taxes and payments saw a significant boost.
Operators contributed $14.0 million in iGaming taxes and another $1.0 million in sports betting taxes. Tribal operators also added $6.5 million to their respective governing bodies, illustrating the substantial fiscal impact of this thriving industry.

Why Is Michigan Online Casino Outpacing Traditional Casinos?
Michigan's online casinos have been outshining their traditional land-based counterparts, becoming the main driver of gaming revenue in the state.
October 2025 Market Share for Detroit Casinos:
- MGM Grand Detroit: 49%
- MotorCity Casino: 29%
- Hollywood Casino at Greektown: 22%
Since its inception, the state's 15 online casinos have collectively generated over $8 billion in lifetime revenue. This year alone, they're on track to surpass $2.8 billion, proving that the transition to digital is paying off.
Several factors are fueling this growth.
Expanded game offerings are keeping players engaged and coming back for more, while ongoing regulatory support ensures a stable and conducive environment for operators. This resilience is particularly noteworthy given seasonal fluctuations and broader economic challenges.
On another note, the three casinos collectively contributed $8.6 million in state gaming taxes in October 2025, a slight increase from the $8.4 million paid in October 2024. Additionally, they paid $13.1 million in wagering taxes and development agreement payments to the City of Detroit.

The Bigger Picture and Future Growth
The record-setting revenue in October is not just a feather in the cap for Michigan but also underscores its position as a leader in the U.S. online gaming market.
With continued growth expected throughout 2025, the sector is not only contributing significantly to state and local tax revenues — totaling $58.0 million across all gaming channels in October alone — but also solidifying the Wolverine State’s role as a pioneer in online gaming innovation.
Michigan's online gaming market is booming, showing no signs of slowing down. Whether you're a player, operator, or policymaker, October has highlighted just how strong and dynamic the Michigan casino industry can be.
