The injury report for the Bears has things trending in the right direction coming out of their bye week.

The biggest difference maker will be cornerback Kyler Gordon, who will be making his season debut on Monday night. Gordon was graded as the 14th-best corner in football in 2024, according to Pro Football Focus, and he’ll allow the Chicago defense to be more aggressive from this point forward.

The Bears defense ranked just 26th in blitz rate through the first four weeks of the season.

Looking at the Bears' defensive metrics can be misleading after they were completely dismantled in one specific game versus the Lions in Week 2. Since that point, the Bears have shown improvements, limiting both Dak Prescott and Geno Smith to fewer than 6.5 yards per pass attempt.

The Commanders’ pass rush has been impressive, but I expect Bears head coach Ben Johnson to work his magic to make life easier for Caleb Williams with two weeks to prepare.

When the Washington defense has failed to get pressure, its secondary has been shredded to the tune of 9.5 yards per attempt, ranking them second-to-last league-wide when they cannot affect the quarterback.

Over the last 10 seasons, road underdogs in the range of +4.5 to +10 coming off their bye week have covered at a 61.4% rate, going 51-32-1 against the spread (ATS).

The Bears will make this very competitive, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them pull the upset with an outright victory Monday night.

Pick: Bears +5.5; bet to +4.5

Like John above, I feel like Bears +5.5 is a touch too high in this spot. The Bears spread is my pick for this game, but I also don't mind sprinkling on the Bears moneyline at +220.

Since 2010, teams that won by at least 17 points as underdogs of a touchdown or less (like the Commanders in Week 5 against the Chargers) are 35% ATS in their following game.

Personally, I don't feel like I have a great handle on what the Commanders are. They were outplayed badly by the Packers and Falcons, and they were great against the Chargers — albeit the Bolts are pretty banged up and potentially overrated.

The Bears have won two in a row and are coming off their bye week. They've also been looking forward to this game considering the Commanders ruined their season last year on that Hail Mary.

Injuries could swing this game in the Bears' direction.

The Commanders will be without WRs Terry McLaurin and Noah Brown. The status of Deebo Samuel is also worth monitoring as he only practiced once last week and is listed as questionable.

The injury report is better for the Bears, who will have T.J. Edwards, Kyler Gordon, Jonah Jackson and Darnell Wright back in the fold.

Pick: Bears Moneyline (+220)

The Bears have a top-10 scoring offense through four games of the Ben Johnson era.

Those games have been characterized by extremely impressive offensive performances early in games, while working through the “scripted” plays that most NFL teams use for the first 15 or so plays.

Things have gotten worse from there, with the Bears ranking second in first-quarter scoring but 17th in second-half scoring. This week, they’re coming off their first bye week with Johnson as head coach, which could be the perfect time for an offensive breakout.

With an extra week to prepare, I expect Johnson’s creative playcalling to shine, as he’s had extra time to scheme up trick plays, as well as incorporate rookie speedster Luther Burden into the offense.

This is the perfect chance for the Bears to string together a complete offensive performance against the Commanders' 18th-ranked passing defense by DVOA.

I have less optimism about the Bears defense. They’ve allowed nearly 30 points per game, including 24 against the Raiders – a bad offense whose only game over 20 points came against the Commanders.

While I’m slightly worried about the Commanders' wide receiver situation, especially if Deebo Samuel misses the game, both teams have enough weaponry to attack bad defenses, and this one could turn into a shootout.

I’ll take the over, with the best line at ESPNBet at the time of writing.

Pick: Over 49.5 (+100)

Rome Odunze Anytime Touchdown (+145)

Rome Odunze has really taken over the WR1 role for the Bears this season, with a 27% target share and a large role in the red-zone.

Odunze has six red-zone targets this year, which leads the team, and he has scored in every single game this season.

The game script should favor the Bears passing all game long with a 5.5 point spread.

I have the true odds on Odunze around +110, making this a great EV bet.

Pick: Rome Odunze Anytime Touchdown (+145)
