NFL PrizePicks, Underdog Plays — Ravens vs Bills
This season opener on Sunday Night Football is arguably an AFC Championship game preview. However, we learned a lot last season as these teams met twice, splitting the most important matchup in the divisional round.
In that matchup, we saw Jackson and the Ravens have loads of success through the air. The Bills ranked 24th in passing yards allowed last season and are far from revamped entering this year.
While Baltimore is not expected to stray far from its 54% rush rate posted in 2024, the Ravens' passing attack has proven to be explosive with Jackson at the helm.
He went over this mark in 58% of games last season, and with the Bills prepared to make a concerted effort to slow down the run, look for Jackson to thrive through the air once again.
While Jackson is expected to have success through the air, his passing volume is a question; he averaged just 21.5 attempts per game last season. That low volume impacts his top target: Zay Flowers.
Despite leading the Ravens in targets, he averaged just 6.7 per game and posted a 60% catch rate.
Like I talked about above, the Ravens use the passing game to pick up chunk gains, and Flowers was a big part of that as he averaged 16.3 yards per reception.
Flowers is a boom-or-bust weapon in this offense. He stayed under this total in eight of 17 games, having recorded just one reception against the Bills last year.
With the run game a priority and other mouths to feed, look for Flowers to make an efficient impact rather than a high-volume one.
Hopkins is continuing his chase for a Super Bowl ring in Baltimore.
However, the 33-year-old receiver is entering his 13th season and is not expected to play a significant role in the Ravens' passing attack.
With the likes of Flowers, Rashod Bateman and Mark Andrews ahead of him in an offense where the third wide receiver had a target share of just 6.3% last season, the opportunity for him to make an impact is minimal.
We should fade him until his role in the offense changes, as he'll have to do a lot with very little this season.
