The NFL offseason is supposed to be quiet, but not this year. Kalshi's "Pro Football Coaches Out Before September" prediction market has been one of the most volatile trading environments in the sport this spring.

To understand why, you have to understand where things stood in early April, what happened, and what the market looks like now. Total volume that has surpassed $982,000, making this one of Kalshi's most heavily traded NFL offseason markets.

How Mike Vrabel Rewrote the Market

Mike Vrabel, the head coach of the reigning AFC Champion New England Patriots, currently sits around 20% on the Yes side, roughly a one-in-five chance he won't be coaching when the 2026 season opens. That number has been as high as 42% over the past month, swinging with each new tabloid headline.

On April 7, the New York Post published images appearing to show Vrabel and Dianna Russini, a prominent NFL reporter formerly with ESPN and The Athletic, embracing at a luxury resort in Sedona, Arizona. Both are married to other people. Vrabel called the speculation "laughable." The market barely flinched.

A second batch of photos surfaced showing the two at a New York City bar in 2020, appearing to kiss. Kalshi traders moved immediately, and Vrabel's price jumped from around 32 cents to a peak of 42 cents, with more than $100,000 in new volume in a single day.

Then, in early May, TMZ published documents allegedly showing Vrabel and Russini on a private boat trip in Tennessee in June 2021, while Russini was visibly pregnant. His Week 1 odds fell from 81% to around 60-64% within 48 hours, and his "Out Before September" price climbed back into the high 20s.

The market has since settled,  and a meaningful pullback reflecting growing trader confidence that Vrabel will survive has occurred. Kraft and the Patriots have backed him publicly at every turn, the NFL won't get involved, and firing the reigning Coach of the Year over tabloid coverage would be historically unprecedented.

Still, the possibility of a leave of absence, with Vrabel stepping away for 2026 and returning in 2027, would resolve the market as a Yes. That's why traders on that side aren't ready to fold.

The Rest of the Board

Beyond Vrabel, the market is a study in near-silence. Every other coach sits at 5% or below, with most at just 3 cents — the market's way of saying "anything is theoretically possible" without actually believing it. Sean Payton in Denver leads the non-Vrabel field, followed by Andy Reid in Kansas City, Matt LaFleur in Green Bay, and Aaron Glenn with the New York Jets.

Beyond those four, Ben Johnson in Chicago, Brian Schottenheimer in Dallas, Dan Quinn in Washington, and Liam Coen in Jacksonville all sit below Vrabel as newly tenured coaches with no serious exit chatter.

The offseason carousel already claimed eight coaches after the 2025 season, including Pete Carroll, John Harbaugh, and Mike Tomlin.

What the Market Is Really Telling Us

This market has become a one-question referendum: Will Mike Vrabel be on the sideline when the Patriots open against Seattle in the Week 1 Super Bowl rematch? Kalshi's current answer is yes. But with four months to go and a story that keeps finding new chapters, the traders holding Yes aren't being irrational. They're just betting the next headline is still out there.
