  • News broke that Dalvin Cook will be active for Week 4 after the below story was written, but our analysts' advice to roster Alexander Mattison still stands.
  • Find out why they still see value in adding Mattison off the waiver wire, if the Vikings backup running back is still available in your fantasy football leagues.

Starting in place of an injured Dalvin Cook (ankle), Alexander Mattison finished Week 3 as the overall fantasy RB7 in every scoring format.

Now, Mattison has the potential for another week as a fantasy RB1.

Cook has been limited in practice all week after missing practice all of last week, which is an encouraging sign for his availability this Sunday. But he's officially listed as questionable for the Vikings' Week 4 matchup against the Browns, placing him at risk of missing his second straight game, so should you still consider adding Mattison — regardless of whether Cook is on your roster?

We think so.

With Mattison still available in 27% of Yahoo! and 38% of ESPN leagues as of writing on Friday, our analysts make the case for picking him up if he's still on your league's waiver wire.

Should You Add Alexander Mattison Off Fantasy Waiver Wire?

Sean Koerner: There’s a chance that if Cook returns this week, Mattison is unplayable. But Mattison would be an RB1 if Cook is ruled out again, making him worth the mid-season stash regardless of Cook's status for Sunday if you have room on your bench.

Mattison is arguably the most valuable backup RB outside of Kareem Hunt.

Samantha Previte: Mattison popped off with Cook sidelined in Week 3, finishing with 26 carries for 112 yards and six catches for 59 yards against the Seahawks. Even if Cook plays this week, I would expect Mattison to see a non-trivial workload.

Mattison is a low-end RB2 with upside this week versus the Browns.
