2018 British Open: Tony Finau Is the Best Betting, DFS Value in the Field

Jul 11, 2018 5:29 PM EDT

For analysis of the top 90 golfers in the British Open field, check out this page. “Best odds value” and “Best matchup value” listed below are determined by a proprietary model built by Colin Davy. It factors in the course, plus a variety of weighted metrics and the betting odds (via Bovada). This isn’t meant to imply every player is worth a bet; we’re simply showing the most efficient way to wager on each golfer should you so choose.

The Outlook

With the loaded field, Finau’s price has dropped $3,300 on DraftKings since his last tournament. He’s severely underpriced as the 43rd most-expensive golfer despite possessing the 11th-best Long-Term Adjusted Round Score (68.6) in the field. Finau obliterates golf balls (312.5-yard Long-Term Driving Distance), and he can hit greens with the best of them (68.6% Long-Term GIR). His main struggle will be keeping the ball in the fairway on this narrow course (56.2% Long-Term Driving Accuracy). He’s shown success in the past in difficult conditions, finishing 27th and 18th in the past two British Opens.

The Metrics

Here’s how Finau ranks in the British Open field in several key metrics. For many more, be sure to check out the FantasyLabs PGA Models.

  • Long-Term Adjusted Round Score: T-11th
  • Recent Adjusted Round Score: T-29th
  • Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green: 15th
  • Long-Term Greens in Regulation: T-24th
  • Strokes Gained: Approach: 14th
  • Long-Term Putts Per Round: T-67th
