Mariners vs Tigers Expert MLB Picks

Story: Back the Mariners in Low-Scoring Affair

The Tigers will host the Mariners on Saturday afternoon in what will be the second of a three-game set at Comerica Park in Detroit.

Seattle right-hander Bryce Miller looks to continue what has been a remarkable start to his 2026 campaign thus far, while the Tigers will trot out 25-year-old righty Keider Montero.

Below, I will break down Saturday afternoon’s matchup and provide a “same-game-parlay” (SGP) that you can use as a betting angle ahead of this American League clash.

Mariners & Tigers NRFI -

For the first leg of our SGP, I favor backing no runs to be scored in the first inning (NRFI) of Saturday afternoon’s contest.

Despite Miller having started the season on the Injured-List (IL) with a left oblique strain, the Mariners’ 27-year-old is off to a phenomenal start to his fourth season in the Big Leagues.

In Bryce’s first four starts in 2026, Seattle’s righty has looked exceptional, recording a 1.71 ERA along with a 0.86 WHIP across 21 frames on the mound thus far.

While the Mariners are certainly keeping an eye on his pitch count as he works his way back to full health, Miller has gone over five innings in all four of his starts this season, with the right-hander only having allowed four runs during that span.

Though statistically not as efficient as Miller, the Tigers’ Montero has been rather impressive on the mound as well throughout his 11 outings in 2026.

The Venezuelan has worked his way up in Detroit’s rotation in impressive fashion, having recorded a 3.69 ERA across 61 frames on the bump. The Tigers’ 25-year-old has been very efficient through his 11 starts and currently posts a 1.00 WHIP this season.

In spite of a few rocky starts along the way, Montero has remained very consistent and is coming off his best outing thus far, having allowed two hits and zero earned runs (ER) versus the White Sox this past Sunday.

Though Montero does not dazzle with elite punch-out prowess, the Tigers’ righty boasts a versatile pitching arsenal with a four-seam fastball and slider as his two primary pitches, amongst many others.

As aforementioned, the Venezuelan’s phenomenal WHIP in 2026 thus far can largely be attributed to an unbelievably low walk-rate (BB/9) resulting from his pinpoint command on the bump.

While Montero is remarkably efficient, the Tigers’ right-hander often fades with each go-around of the opponent’s lineup, as hitters are frequently able to adjust after each encounter, given the 25-year-old’s lack of an overpowering pitch to retire batters.

That said, I prefer backing the ‘NRFI’ angle as opposed to the first-five (F5) given Montero’s tendency to unravel with each time he goes through a batting order.

Mariners Moneyline

For my second leg to round out our SGP ahead of Saturday afternoon’s American League clash, I will be looking to back the Mariners to reign supreme on the road in Detroit.

Despite Montero’s successes on the mound in 2026, I worry about his being able to consistently retire a Mariners’ lineup boasting tremendous versatility and contact rates throughout its entire batting order.

There are very often occurrences when the Tigers’ righty falls behind in the count, and as a result, throws his follow-up pitches over the center of the strike zone.

That said, this will most definitely not fare well against a Seattle lineup with great patience in the box and elite production from the middle of its order, featuring several heavy-contact hitters like Cal Raleigh, Randy Arozarena, and Josh Naylor, among others.

Not only does the Mariners’ lineup consist of many power-hitters, but they boast elite speed on the basepaths with superstar OF Julio Rodriguez, and their lefty lead-off, JP Crawford.

As a team, Seattle ranks inside the top-10 in the Major Leagues in both slugging percentage (SLG), total bases, and a number of other offensive categories.

In a game where the Mariners have a pitching edge and a superior lineup to that of the Tigers, I feel great backing Seattle on the moneyline in what should round out our Saturday afternoon SGP quite nicely.
