The Denver Nuggets will attempt to close out the Western Conference Finals series against the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday night. Nikola Jokic (49% opening-tip win rate) will go up against Anthony Davis (57% win rate) for the opening tip-off. Jokic has won the last two opening tip-offs versus Davis, but on the season, the centers have split opening tip-offs with each player winning three.
These teams have played each other seven games this season with the Nuggets scoring first in four of the seven games. Jokic (twice), Michael Porter Jr. and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope have each scored first baskets for the Nuggets while Davis, Lebron James and Jarred Vanderbilt all have scored first basket for the Lakers.
With the Lakers on the brink of elimination, I expect them to come out hot tonight and score first.
James has scored the first team points in seven of 16 games this postseason, and I expect him to make an early attempt tonight.
Reaves has been the only other starter outside of Davis and James who has made a meaningful impact for the Lakers in this series. He could get open for a three-point shot in the event that James drives to the basket.
