NBA First Basket Prop Pick: Donovan Mitchell, Jarrett Allen

The Cleveland Cavaliers will host the San Antonio Spurs on Monday evening.  Jarrett Allen (63% opening tip win rate) will face off against Zach Collins (44% win rate) on the opening tip-off. Allen won the only tip against Collins in December when these teams played — Donovan Mitchell scored on the first possession in that game — and I expect the Cavaliers to control the tip-off tonight.

The Spurs have given up first baskets to centers and shooting guards in 51% of games this season. More recently, the Spurs have given up the first opposing basket to centers in seven of their past 11 games. That info comes with the caveat that Jakob Poeltl was traded to the Toronto Raptors at the deadline last week and Collins has taken over at center for the Spurs.

After averaging 14 points per game in the first four months of the season, Allen's production has picked up significantly in February. Allen has averaged 20 points per game over his past six games. I like Mitchell or Allen to score first in this matchup tonight.
