Lakers vs. Pelicans
New Orleans is finally getting back to full strength. Trey Murphy returned in the last game, Derik Queen is back from a brief absence, and Zion Williamson has been in the starting lineup after coming off of the bench for a stretch.
Herbert Jones is also questionable. He's missed the past two weeks. If Jones returns, Saddiq Bey would be the only regular rotation player sidelined tonight. The improving health of the roster puts Missi's minutes into question.
The last time Jones suited up, Missi was limited to just three minutes. Karlo Matkovic is the other factor. He drew the start last game and played a season-high 24 minutes. Matkovic might've leapfrogged Missi in the big-man rotation. Even if Jones doesn't suit up, Missi's playing-time upside is limited.
If Jones plays, Missi could be out of the rotation entirely. We'd be sweating a blowout appearance in that scenario, which is exactly what happened in Jones' last game (Missi played the final three minutes in a 19-point win).
The Lakers have had their struggles on defense, but opposing centers haven't been an issue.
The Lakers have held centers to the fewest points per game and the 2nd-fewest rebounds per game.
Pick: Yves Missi Under 10.5 Points & Rebounds (-110)
Heat vs. Timberwolves
By Matt Moore
McDaniels is shooting 55 percent from three over his last eight games, but this is all about the opponent. Miami allows the 10th-highest corner 3-pointer rate of any team this season.
It’s a function of how they defend, and a byproduct of how often they use zone.
McDaniels, on the other hand, is 45 percent on corner threes this season, compared to 39 percent on all other shots.
Miami also plays at the fastest pace team in the league — and while they actually force the 28th-ranked defensive possession length (they make you take more time finding a shot), the sheer volume of possessions created by their speed bumps up those numbers.
This line is 0.6 above where McDaniels has been over the last eight games, but given the specific matchup combo, I’ll play it.
Pick: Jaden McDaniels Over 1.5 Three-Pointers Made (+150)
Mavericks vs. Kings
By Joe Dellera
The Mavericks get a soft matchup against the Kings on Tuesday night, and I’m looking to some of their depth.
The Mavericks have ruled out Dereck Lively for the season, and now PJ Washington is listed as doubtful for this game as well.
Without them, Washington in particular, Naji has seen an uptick in his scoring this season; without PJ, Naji is up to 17.7 points per game and has exceeded this line of 12.5 in 5-of-6 games.
The Kings’ defense is fourth-worst in the league, and Dallas should be able to speed up their average pace. Naji also relentlessly attacks the paint — an area where the Kings allow the second-most points in the league per game.
