The Brooklyn Nets have gone through a rollercoaster of drama and emotions over the past few years, but what has gone down this summer is up there with the wildest stuff yet.
After getting swept by the Celtics in April, the Nets made it clear that giving Kyrie Irving his desired contract extension would be unlikely. Irving opted in to his player option for the upcoming season after being shopped on the trade market and deciding what to do with his future.
Approximately a month later, Kevin Durant requested a trade to owner Joe Tsai. While there have been rumblings of trade offers from teams like the Celtics, nothing has gotten too close to being finalized.
Most recently, Durant reportedly issued an ultimatum to Tsai, stating that he needed to pick between Durant or the team's head coach and general manager, Steve Nash and Sean Marks.
So, how are oddsmakers reacting to all of this drama? Well, for one, the Nets over/under on wins this season is over 10 games less than it was last season, when Brooklyn was listed at 56.5.
This time around, the Nets are listed at 45.5 (+110/-134) at FanDuel. For reference, the Celtics are listed at 56.5 (-110/-110).
In terms of futures odds, DraftKings has the Nets at +1400 to come home with an NBA title, while their odds to win the East are listed at +650. That's good for the seventh-best championship odds and third-best conference odds.
Things will be changing quickly as the team's front office makes decisions on the path of the team, but for now that is where Brooklyn stands.
