We’re four weeks into the college baseball season and are finally getting some solid data points on teams.
Although there’s more data to go off, this year has also been wildly unpredictable, with top-five teams routinely dropping even weekend games to mid-majors. This weekend, Florida lost the entire series to High Point.
But with vulnerability comes opportunity. Let’s dig into this Sunday afternoon slate with my two college baseball picks and NCAA baseball best bets for Sunday, March 8.

Louisiana Tech vs. South Alabama
Louisiana Tech is a good ballclub that finally got off the schneid after it beat South Alabama, 6-2, on Saturday. Sophomore Brooks Roberson (2-1, 4.53 FIP) takes his fourth start of the year, coming off his first loss of the year against Southern Miss. The 6-foot-4 righty is holding opponents to a .200 batting average and .562 OPS, though he’s gotten into trouble with walks.
South Alabama starter Daniel Gonzalez looks impressive on the stat sheet (1.59 ERA leads the Jags), but he’s benefited from strong fielding, bringing his xFIP to 4.76 – respectable, but a bit more telling of his starts than his basic stats.
I trust the Bulldogs to pick up this weekend series win on the road, and the market does, too. Louisiana Tech took plenty of movement this weekend.
Pick: Louisiana Tech ML -130
Xavier vs. Oregon State
A combination of a dominant pitching staff and an offense that’s not quite right, Oregon State has been a sound under team this year. The Beavers have held all three Sunday opponents to five or fewer runs and this weekend’s opponent, Xavier, to just two runs apiece.
Eric Segura takes the mound for his fourth start of the year. He’s had trouble turning in extended starts, throwing just 11.1 innings in his first three appearances, but he also held Stanford and Iowa to a single combined run in 7.0 IP.
Xavier’s pitching staff is a complete disaster, allowing Louisville to hang 23 and Cal State Fullerton, 16. But Oregon State’s plodding pats and underwhelming power (nobody has more than two homers) is enough to keep this run total low.
