Arizona State vs BYU NCAAB Betting Preview
Arizona State Basketball
Arizona State is sliding of late, as it lost three straight to UCLA, Oregon State and Colorado.
In the loss to Colorado, the Buffaloes shot 31 free throws in the second half alone.
Moe Odum had 21 points and 12 assists in the loss and has been a consistent bright spot for Arizona State this season. He leads the team in scoring (16.6 PPG), assists (6.6 APG) and is tied for first in steals (1.5 SPG).
Anthony "Pig" Johnson is the second leading scorer (14.1 PPG) and is coming off a 20-point outing in which he shot 8-of-15 from the field.
The X-factor for Arizona State is talented 7-foot-1 freshman Massamba Diop. Diop has gone viral on social media with the way he can make highlight plays. Last game, he scored 20 points on 7-of-9 from the field while recording seven blocks.
The main negative for Diop is that he struggles to rebound the basketball. In the last two games against Oregon State and Colorado, Diop had three rebounds in each.
BYU Basketball
It's AJ Dybantsa's world and we're just living in it.
BYU is rolling at 13-1, and it's 11th in offensive efficiency and 18th in defensive efficiency.
Dybantsa leads the country in scoring at 23.1 points per game, and he hasn't scored less than 20 since November. He's shooting 58.6% from the field, which is very efficient when you think about the type of shots he takes.
BYU has two other players scoring in double figures. The first is Richie Saunders, who averages 18 points per game and shoots 39% from 3 on seven attempts per game.
The other is Robert Wright III, who's been awesome this season. Dybantsa gets the recognition — and rightfully so — but the sophomore leap Wright has made this season has been impressive.
Wright is averaging 16 points and 5.5 assists per game. Meanwhile, his 3-point percentage has increased from 35% as a freshman at Baylor to 47% as a sophomore in Provo on 1.5 more attempts per game.
Arizona State vs. BYU Betting Analysis
This is a matchup nightmare from hell for Arizona State. As a team, it doesn't shoot the 3 well, and it's playing a good 3-point defense in BYU.
The Sun Devils are the 12th-tallest team in the country, but they're 256th in offensive rebounding percentage.
BYU's perimeter talent alone is too much for Arizona State to guard. Now factor in Diop going against BYU's Keba Keita — who's coming off a 16-rebound performance — in the post, and it'll be tough for Arizona State to cover.
It'll be a fun night for BYU and a long night for Arizona State as it continues to try to find the right answers.
My Pick: BYU -18.5
