Colorado vs Texas Tech College Basketball Betting Preview
Colorado Basketball
Colorado comes into this matchup as winners in two of its last three games and now sits at 14-10 overall and 4-7 in the Big 12.
In their first matchup against the Red Raiders, the Buffaloes gave a valiant effort during their comeback attempt. They were down as much as 24 points in the second half and had a chance to win it, but Barrington Hargress missed a 3 at the buzzer.
Though he normally doesn't start, Isaiah Johnson is the energizer bunny for this offense. Johnson scored all of his 21 points in the second half in the first matchup against Texas Tech and has scored in double figures in 22 games this season.
He's a twitchy jitterbug, and he loves to show off his explosiveness in transition, where he's trying to get downhill and finish around the rim (59% on 2s) or draw a foul.
Sebastian Rancik can be a tough matchup for defenses. Standing at 6-foot-11, Rancik is capable of coming off pin-down screens to hit catch-and-shoot 3s, as well as shooting dribble jumpers over smaller defenders.
In the first matchup against Texas Tech, Rancik had 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting (3-of-6 from 3).
Texas Tech Basketball
Texas Tech ended its two-game skid with a solid 70-63 win at West Virginia and now sits at 17-6 overall and 7-3 in the Big 12.
Christian Anderson had one of his signature floor general games against the Mountaineers, scoring 13 points to go along with 11 assists.
Anderson has been lethal out of the two-man game for the Red Raiders. On the season, 44% of his scoring has been out of these situations, with a 60.4% effective field goal percentage on 135 shots.
What makes Anderson such a difficult matchup is his facilitating off the simple ball screen. He averages 7.7 assists per game, but in the first matchup against Colorado, Anderson had his second-lowest assist total on the season with three.
Nobody was happier with Anderson returning to the starting lineup than JT Toppin. Toppin had 22 points and nine rebounds in the win against West Virginia after posting his worst shooting performance of the season (27.8%) in the loss to Kansas (a game in which Anderson didn't play).
Colorado vs. Texas Tech Betting Analysis
Unfortunately for Colorado, this game is on the road, where the Buffs are 1-5 this season.
As remarkable as the Buffaloes' comeback attempt was in the first matchup, a little luck was involved.
The Red Raiders committed 20 fouls, with four players having four fouls to Colorado's nine total team fouls. Meanwhile, the Buffaloes shot 19-of-22 from the free-throw line compared to Texas Tech's 4-of-10.
Jaylen Petty did a good job of making Johnson shoot poorly (3-of-11) in the first matchup, but the Colorado bucket getter was able to use Texas Tech's aggressiveness to his advantage by going to the line 13 times. I wouldn't count on Johnson getting those calls again this time around, though.
At the end of the day, Colorado won't be able to keep Texas Tech off the offensive glass. Toppin had seven of the team's 16 offensive rebounds in the first matchup.
With the Red Raiders playing at home, their aggressive style of defense will rattle Colorado and make the Buffaloes shoot low-percentage shots.
My Pick: Texas Tech -14.5
