Creighton vs Baylor College Basketball Betting Preview
Creighton Basketball
Creighton is one team that I’ve dropped dramatically in my rankings since the season began. The Bluejays' lone loss came at the hands of Gonzaga in a 90-63 drubbing. They looked terrible on both ends, scoring 0.88 PPP while allowing 1.25 PPP.
The Jays were bound to struggle a bit defensively without Ryan Kalkbrenner, but they allow opponents to shoot 49% from inside the arc (122nd nationally).
Another sign of missing Kalkbrenner is on the defensive glass. Last season with Kalk, the Jays seldom allowed second chances. This season, Creighton allows opponents to grab offensive boards 31% of the time.
Greg McDermott isn't known for being a defensive coach, though. He makes his money on the offensive end, but Creighton ranks 44th in offensive efficiency this season.
Creighton has been a subpar perimeter shooting team, connecting on just 27% of its looks from deep. Will it get better? Maybe a bit, but this roster wasn't built to shoot it well from deep.
In recent seasons, Creighton teams have had an elite shooting point guard. Nik Graves is the point guard in 2025-26, and he's a career 31.6% shooter on nearly 300 attempts. He's off to an awful start, making 2-of-18 in five games.
Josh Dix is the only one who should be better. He made over 40% from 3 the last three seasons at Iowa and is hitting only 26% from 3 thus far in Omaha. He could help open the offense up.
Part of the prognostication with Creighton was a jump from sophomore forward Jackson McAndrew. McAndrew was just 28% from 3, but now he's done for the season with an injury. Stepping in for him will be a combination of Jasen Green and Isaac Traudt.
Baylor Basketball
Baylor took 10 days off between its last game against Tarleton State and the Players Era Festival. With plenty of teams in action constantly, it can make you forget how good Baylor looked in its first three outings.
The Bears beat a healthy Washington (pre-Hannes Steinbach injury) by nine and took home 13+ point wins over Tarleton State and UT Rio Grande Valley.
Scott Drew finally has a squad that can compete on both ends of the floor.
The Bears' defense has been a total nightmare for multiple seasons, which prompted Drew to bring in Ron Sanchez to run the unit. Sanchez, a member of the Tony Bennett tree, brought the pack line defense to Waco, and it's the reason why Baylor is 33rd in defensive efficiency.
Baylor is also a strong offensive squad, ranking 19th in offensive efficiency. The Bears have a balanced attack, shooting 63% from inside the arc (13th nationally) and 35.9% from 3 (103rd nationally).
Cameron Carr quickly developed into the go-to guy for Baylor. He's a former highly-touted recruit who barely played at Tennessee before transferring. The 6-foot-5 guard leads Baylor with 23 points per game, and he can drive to the hoop with ease while also being a strong perimeter marksman.
The Bears only play an eight-man rotation due to backup big man Juslin Bodo Bodo being injured. Five of the eight rotation members average double-figures in points, with Tounde Yessoufou, Dan Skillings Jr., Obi Agbim and Isaac Williams IV joining Carr in the scoring department.
The guard play in Waco is more stable than in Omaha. Graves isn't a natural point guard for Creighton, but he's the only option on the roster. Baylor has three point-guard options in Agbim, Williams and JJ White.
Creighton vs. Baylor Betting Analysis
I'm totally on the fade Creighton train right now.
Owen Freeman will eventually get rolling as he gets in better shape after an injury-riddled summer. So, if Freeman drops 20 here, that wouldn't be a surprise. He'll end up as Creighton's best player.
However, the guard play is a major problem, and Freeman won't help the defensive problems much.
My Pick: Baylor -4.5 (Play to -6.5)
