Dartmouth vs Sacred Heart College Basketball Betting Preview

Dartmouth Basketball

Dartmouth comes into this game with three double-digit scorers: Kareem Thomas, Brandon Mitchell-Day and Jayden Williams.

But the Big Green's advantage might lie in Thomas. He averages a tick above 19 points per game and has scored at least 22 in back-to-back outings.

Dartmouth will also look to push the tempo and pace, doing so while getting into transition. It plays at the 55th-fastest adjusted tempo and averages just 16.8 seconds per possession before attempting a field goal or earning a trip to the free-throw line.

Sacred Heart Basketball

Sacred Heart comes in as the 278th-ranked team, per KenPom, 43 spots below the visiting Big Green of Dartmouth.

But pound-for-pound, the Pioneers have been tested far more than Dartmouth.

They have four wins, all against teams outside the top 300 in power ratings. Three of their four wins have come against Division I opponents. Also, even though they lost both of these games, they played Villanova and Penn State.

The Pioneers are aided offensively by Dashon Gittens, Anquan Hill and Nyle Ralph-Beyer, a trio of double-digit scorers. Hill does a good job of grabbing six rebounds per game, but the lack of help in that area has hurt the Pioneers' second-chance opportunities.

Their offense shoots a high volume of 3s, which often helps them stay in games when they fall behind. When they don’t, it gets ugly. They lost games by 12, 34, 17 and 31.

Their significant issues have come on the defensive end. They rank 335th in adjusted defensive efficiency and 324th in opponent field goal percentage. Even when they shoot lights out, it’s often hard for them to keep that pace when their defense is so porous.

That could be seen as trouble considering that Dartmouth is 20th in the number of 3-point field goals attempted relative to its overall field goals. And the Big Green rank 27th, hitting at a 38.8% clip from 3.

Dartmouth vs. Sacred Heart Betting Analysis

This spread comes in right around even money, and while Dartmouth looks like the side on paper, I can’t confidently give it out.

What I do think will happen is that Dartmouth will push the pace. And you have two teams that rank 20th and 10th, respectively, in 3-pointers attempted offensively.

Expect a fast-paced game with two teams that struggle defensively and two offenses that take a high volume of long-range shots.

Take the over to 160.

My Pick: Over 157.5 (Play to 160)
