Northern Arizona vs Drake College Basketball Betting Preview

Northern Arizona Basketball

Northern Arizona, as customary in today’s college basketball, will start from scratch. This team jumped from 14 wins to 18 wins and made the postseason last season. Now eight of its biggest producers have left.

Those eight guys played for three years in the program, which is nearly unheard of in this landscape of college hoops.

The Lumberjacks will reload with a couple of key transfers and a pair of talented freshmen from St. John Bosco and Bishop Gorman. But their biggest instant impact will come from Traivar Jackson.

This team will be successful if it can find good guard play, limit turnovers and find a way to incorporate each other into a new system.

Drake Basketball

There may not be a team entering the 2025 season with more question marks than the Drake Bulldogs. They stormed into NCAA Tournament play as the 11-seed and quickly became Cinderellas, beating Missouri 67-57.

Much of their roster transferred in, following former head coach Ben McCollum from Northwest Missouri State University.

McCollum left after a massively successful year at Drake to take the head job at Iowa. But his departure is one of very many. Bennett Stirtz, Tavion Banks, Cam Manyawu, Isaia Howard and Kael Combs have also departed, following the coach to Iowa.

This year’s team is a complete 180, a total rebuild. And we won’t know a lot about it until it plays a few games.

We've talked a lot about Iowa for a preview of Drake, and that may be the point.

After a successful six-year stint at South Dakota State — during which the Jackrabbits cracked 19 wins five times — Eric Henderson was hired shortly after McCollum left.

Expect a plethora of capable shooters, as that's what the Jackrabbits were known for under Henderson. But assembling a brand new team might make it hard for this Drake squad to get out of the gate.

There's a lot of unknowns for a team — and a coach — with a lot to prove.

Northern Arizona vs. Drake Betting Analysis

This is a big spread for two teams making a trip up to South Dakota for a neutral site game. Expect a lot of motivation from Henderson, as South Dakota was his home for some time. But laying 9 is dangerous in this spot. We will, however, take a look at the under.

At 146, we can expect a slower pace to start the game. And we can also expect more missed shots than we would late in the season.

Both sides will need some time to learn new systems, so expect a bogged-down pace and take the under.

My Pick: Under 146 (Play to 145.5)
