Indiana Basketball

Darian DeVries is in his first season in Bloomington and was a great offseason hire after former head coach Mike Woodson stepped down after four seasons at the helm.

DeVries looks to lead his Hoosiers to the NCAA Tournament after having missed the last two under Woodson. DeVries had a very successful six-season tenure at Drake, during which he led the Bulldogs to three Big Dance appearances.

He left Drake prior to the 2024-25 season and served as the head coach for West Virginia prior to signing with the Hoosiers.

While Indiana is back on track after a slow start to DeVries’ first season, it's on the bubble.

Leading the charge for the Hoosiers' offense is senior leader Lamar Wilkerson, whose 21.2 points per game rank 12th nationally.

Wilkerson has had no trouble adjusting from a mid-major schedule to power-conference basketball, as he's actually scoring more points in the Big Ten than he had in Conference USA.

If the Hoosiers are to make a late-season run to improve its NCAA tournament resume, it'll be on the back of its star guard who's coming off a 40-point performance against Oregon.

Wilkerson leads an Indiana offense scoring over 81 points per contest and ranks top-35 in the country in offensive efficiency, according to KenPom.

Indiana’s backcourt also features the head coach’s son, Tucker DeVries, who's posting just under 14 points per game, along with over five rebounds and three assists.

DeVries previously played for both Drake and West Virginia, with his entire collegiate career taking place under his fathers coaching umbrella.

For a Hoosiers offense that boasts elite guard play, the frontcourt really struggles, as no forwards are posting double-figure scoring efforts.

Indiana plays extremely small, with 6-foot-9 Sam Alexis being the tallest player in the Hoosiers' starting lineup. While 6-foot-10 Reed Bailey has been solid defensively coming off the bench, DeVries’ bunch has struggled defensively due to its lack of size, barely ranking inside the top 50 in defensive efficiency.

If the Hoosiers are to receive an NCAA Tournament bid in 2026, they must improve defensively, especially in a conference loaded with elite offensive frontcourts.

Illinois Basketball

Illinois is right on track to make its sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance in its ninth season under head coach Brad Underwood. The eighth-ranked Fighting Illini enter Sunday’s contest with a 20-5 overall record, winning 11 of their first 14 conference matchups.

Prior to this week, Illinois had been one of the hottest teams in the country, rattling off 13 consecutive victories even after losing its senior leader and star point guard Kylan Boswell. The Illini are now coming off consecutive losses to Michigan State and Wisconsin, resulting in sizable implications for Sunday afternoon’s Big Ten clash.

There was a lot of uncertainty in Champaign after the Illini lost Boswell to a broken hand, but the impact of freshman guard Keaton Wagler has been tremendous.

After Boswell went down, Illinois had an extremely difficult test in front of it, having to travel to West Lafayette for a meeting with Purdue. Instead, Wagler put up an insane 46-point performance in a seven-point upset victory.

The freshman continues to excel while Boswell remains sidelined, and Wagler has proven to be one of the most premier scorers in the sport (nearly 19 PPG).

Behind the stellar play of its star freshman, Underwood’s bunch ranks first in the entire country in offensive efficiency, according to KenPom.

Illinois’ frontcourt poses a very difficult test for any opponent to find clean looks inside the lane, boasting incredible size, featuring the likes of 7-foot-1 Tomislav Ivisic and 6-foot-9 David Mirkovic.

Alongside 7-foot-2 center Zvonimir “Big Z” Ivisic, the Illini are a matchup nightmare for opposing forwards.

Illinois ranks 29th in the country in defensive efficiency, according to KenPom, and is allowing under 70 points per game.

Indiana vs. Illinois Betting Analysis

I don't envision Indiana being able to match the pace of the Illini’s up-tempo offensive firepower in this matchup.

Illinois has something to prove coming off consecutive losses, one of which occurred on its home floor.

I love Illinois to prevail in what should be a prime bounce-back opportunity.

Also, Wagler is poised for a great performance versus a Hoosier defense that struggles to defend the perimeter.

Thus, I'll be backing Illinois to cover the spread, and for its star freshman to exceed his 3-point field goal total.

My Pick: Illinois -10.5 | Keaton Wagler Over 3-Pointers Made
