Miami (OH) vs Toledo NCAAB Betting Preview
Miami (OH) Basketball
Miami (OH) is the talk of the MAC this season, as Travis Steele's group is 16-0 while playing a really fun style of basketball.
Putting Akron on notice in the MAC certainly speaks volumes for the RedHawks, who are in the midst of their best start in program history.
Five players average double figures in scoring for Miami (OH) and another two players average at least eight points per game.
Brant Byers, Peter Suder and Almar Atlason can knock down 3-point shots from anywhere on the court, and all three have stepped up big offensively after Evan Ipsaro went down due to a season-ending ACL injury.
The RedHawks aren't overly deep and their strength of schedule is weak, but a win on the road at Toledo would cement them as a strong contender in the MAC.
Toledo Basketball
Toledo comes in as winners of its first three conference games, as Tod Kowalczyk has his Rockets playing with a ton of confidence.
After erasing 16-point leads against Western Michigan and Central Michigan last week, Toledo led against Northern Illinois for 38 minutes — and by as much as 20 points.
Toledo has five players who average double figures in scoring, led by Sonny Wilson and Leroy Blyden Jr., who each average over 15 points and four assists per contest.
Toledo winning on the glass — and thus securing extra possessions — has been key this season. In fact, the Rockets are averaging 14 offensive rebounds per game in MAC play.
The defense hasn't been overly efficient, but the Rockets defend well without fouling and should force Miami (OH) into tough contested shots.
I wouldn't expect a ton of foul shots from Miami (OH) in this one.
Miami (OH) vs. Toledo Betting Analysis
This line opened with Miami (OH) at -2, but Toledo has taken some action. The Rockets are now a 1.5-point underdog with a total pegged at 165.5, at the time of writing. I'm going to hold my nose here and take the under.
Toledo has struggled to get going early on in two recent league games and saw itself down 16 points against Western Michigan and Central Michigan.
I'm not discrediting the comebacks, but it's concerning that the Rockets have struggled so badly early on against inferior MAC competition.
While Toledo isn't a great 3-point shooting team, it's going to shoot a ton of 3s anyways. The Rockets are reliant on Wilson and Blyden creating off the dribble, but Kyler Vanderjagt and Austin Parks have also developed nicely this season for them.
I do wonder how the operation will look against a Miami (OH) defense that defends well and is one of the top rebounding teams in the entire country.
I don't anticipate we see a ton of second chance opportunities for Toledo in this game, and that could limit the scoring for a team that's just middle of the road in 2- and 3-point shooting.
Miami (OH) is going to shoot a ton of 3s, and there will be some variance in shot selection and whether or not those shots go down. The RedHawks didn’t shoot the ball very well against Akron, but their defense was strong and they only sent Akron to the line for 10 total free throws.
I think this game is going to be close throughout, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it come down to the last shot.
I think this matchup will be somewhat uptempo, but it might slow in the last 4-5 minutes of the second half.
I'll call for this game to finish under the posted total.
My Pick: Under 165.5 (Play to 164)
