Purdue dropped from the No. 1 spot in the AP Poll after beating Oakland by 10 on Saturday. It wasn't the prettiest win for the Boilermakers, but this will be their biggest test of the season so far.

Everything centers around preseason National Player of the Year Braden Smith, who's averaging 13.5 points and 10 assists in his first two games of his senior campaign. In what figures to be a high-scoring showdown, Smith adding extra scoring would be a nice boost.

After missing the first two games of the year with a minor injury, All-Big Ten forward Trey Kaufman-Renn will make his season debut on Wednesday. Last year, Kaufman-Renn averaged 20.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while showcasing some feathery touch near the basket.

Fletcher Loyer is enjoying the start to his final year in West Lafayette, as he's averaging 22.5 points a night and is shooting a jarring 58% from downtown. Will he shoot almost 60% from 3 all year? No, but he looks more confident than ever, and he's always been an elite marksman.

In this matchup, the key for both Kaufman-Renn and fellow big man Oscar Cluff will be defending the perimeter. Both are more comfortable defenders near the rim, but Alabama will stretch teams out with its floor spacing and expose slower bigs on switches.

Like clockwork, against St. John's, when Labaron Philon Jr. saw Zuby Ejiofor or Ruben Prey on a switch, he attacked and scored with ease.

Purdue allowed 1.10 PPP to Oakland and allowed it to shoot 52% from 2-point range. Matt Painter is an excellent coach, but he has some defensive kinks to work out heading into this one.

That's the downside of playing two non-shooting, slower bigs. I think Purdue will be fine in most matchups, particularly in the Big Ten. Defending this high-octane Alabama offense is a different beast, though.

This would be the typical “letdown” spot for a team like Alabama. The Crimson Tide, who finished off an outstanding upset win over St. John’s at Madison Square Garden, now heads home to play No. 2-ranked Purdue.

That has letdown written all over it.

While the letdown spot can be a good angle at times, I'm skeptical it'll work here.

The Crimson Tide offense was functioning at a very high level against the Johnnies, scoring 102 points on 1.25 PPP.

The scary part is it felt like Alabama left some meat on the bone in terms of 3-point shooting — it went 11-for-35 from deep.

And the Tide will keep shooting, so expect better days to come.

Alabama has such elite guards. There might not be a guard corps in the country that's better than Philon, Aden Holloway, Houston Mallette and Latrell Wrightsell. Philon, the top player on Bama's roster, scored 25 points against St. John's, but most of his damage came on drives. He attacked mismatches and dominated in the lane.

The trio of Philon, Holloway and Mallette went just 5-for-20 from downtown.

Philon and Holloway each enter this contest averaging over 20 points and four-plus assists per game. Very few teams actually have two point guards, but Alabama boasts two elite ones.

I questioned if Alabama's interior could hold up against St. John's dominant bigs. The Tide responded by winning the rebounding battle, 35-32, and 14-10 on the offensive glass.

Plus, starting center Aiden Sherrell played 19 minutes due to foul trouble. In his place, freshman Amari Allen grabbed 10 boards, and stretch-four Taylor Bol Bowen had nine.

If Alabama can handle the Johnnies' interior, there isn't one it can't handle.

Purdue vs. Alabama Betting Analysis

It'll be a battle of contrasting styles in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama plays at one of the fastest tempos in the country and won't attempt a single mid-range shot unless Philon finds one.

Meanwhile, Purdue plays at the 329th-fastest tempo in the country and likely will be more interior-oriented with Kaufman-Renn back.

I feel like Alabama is too explosive, and slowing down the Tide in their house will be very difficult.

Give me Alabama and its dominant guards to cover.

My Pick: Alabama -3.5 (Play to -5)
