Seattle vs Gonzaga College Basketball Betting Preview
Seattle Basketball
Seattle is 1-1 in its first season in the WCC, but on Friday, it gets its official “welcome to the league” initiation. The mighty Gonzaga Bulldogs host the Redhawks, looking to stuff another foe into a lock and continue their conference dominance.
Seattle has been quite good this season, beating Washington at home and winning at Stanford. Defense leads the way for the Redhawks (top-45 nationally, per KenPom), and head coach Chris Victor has been excellent at the helm.
Seattle’s defense fuels its underwhelming offense, and it ranks 16th nationally in turnover rate. If forced to play strictly in the half-court, scoring can be a challenge.
The Redhawks largely play inside the arc on offense and work the ball into the paint. Victor has installed a ton of cutting and motion into his attack, and he has a couple of late-clock bailout options in Brayden Maldonado and Will Heimbrodt.
Gonzaga Basketball
Scoring against Gonzaga will be a tall order. The Zags are an elite ball-handling team, so forcing turnovers and generating easy offense in the open floor will be challenging.
San Diego managed to force 15 against a sleepy Zags squad on Tuesday, but that’s unlikely to happen again.
In the half-court, Gonzaga’s size and elite rebounding ability often limit the opposition to one contested shot per possession, though it’s not impossible to score inside against Graham Ike and Braden Huff.
San Diego shot 65.6% inside the arc against the Zags, suggesting a small path exists for the Redhawks.
Seattle vs. Gonzaga Betting Analysis
Gonzaga looks every bit a national title contender this season and is off to a 2-0 WCC start with a 40-point win at Pepperdine and a close win at San Diego. The Zags scored at will against San Diego, but their lazy defense kept the Toreros within striking distance.
Seattle is a much better defensive team than San Diego, but this Zags offense – a top-five unit in the country – is an entirely different animal than anything Seattle has seen this season.
Offense will run through Ike and Huff in the post, and Mark Few’s bunch will look to push off the defensive glass and get buckets in transition.
Seattle has size up front with Austin Maurer and Houran Dan, but they’ll likely fall short against the Zags’ All-American caliber bigs.
It's at least a short four-hour jaunt for the Redhawks to Spokane, but don’t expect a warm welcome to the Kennel. Gonzaga should be able to roll through the Redhawks without too many issues and capture its ninth 20+ point win of the season.
My Pick: Gonzaga -23
