Texas Tech vs West Virginia College Basketball Betting Preview

Texas Tech Basketball

Texas Tech sits at 16-6 overall and 6-3 in the Big 12 and is looking to end its two-game skid.

Christian Anderson missed the Red Raiders' last game against Kansas and is expected to play against West Virginia, per Jon Rothstein.

Anderson's playmaking ability will be a sight for sore eyes after watching Texas Tech struggle to score while shooting 12-of-40 from 3 in its loss to Kansas.

What makes him dangerous is his efficiency as a facilitator and scorer out of the two-man game, especially with JT Toppin in the middle of the floor.

As the ball handler out of the pick-and-roll, Anderson is comfortable in picking his spots to score, shooting an effective field goal percentage of 60.3% on 131 shots on the season. When the defense focuses on Anderson as the scoring threat, he takes what the defense gives him and finds the shooters and cutters.

Out of Anderson's 153 assists this season, 89 of them have been with him being the ball handler out of the pick-and-roll.

Toppin is looking for a much-needed bounce-back game, and what better way of getting good looks than with your star point guard coming back?

West Virginia Basketball

West Virginia comes into this matchup at 15-8 overall and 6-4 in Big 12 play.

The Mountaineers' defense has been stout all season and in their last three games, they're holding teams to an average of 57 points per game.

Their defense has been so stout that the Mountaineers forced Cincinnati head coach Wes Miller to apologize to his fans after the Bearcats scored just 54 points in a loss.

As great as West Virginia's defense has been this season, its offense has been brutal to watch recently. In its last four games, West Virginia hasn't scored more than 59 points (59!).

Honor Huff is the straw that stirs the drink for this offense, and he's accustomed to having big games at home against ranked teams, as he did in the win against Kansas earlier this season. However, he can also be inefficient, like his 1-of-13 performance in West Virginia's home loss against Baylor.

On the interior, Harlan Obioha leads the team with 5.1 rebounds per game. He'll have his hands full trying to not only stop, but keep Toppin off the offensive glass.

Texas Tech vs. West Virginia Betting Analysis

Texas Tech has a chip on its shoulder, as it's coming off two straight losses and is getting (in my opinion) its best player back.

As someone who picked West Virginia to cover against Kansas earlier this season, I think this Texas Tech offense is a different kind of unit that can exploit the Mountaineers' defense.

The Red Raiders setting a middle ball screen almost every possession sounds easy to guard in theory, but the players on the floor make it hard to guard.

Look for Toppin to have a strong bounce-back game thanks to Anderson being back in the lineup.

My Pick: Texas Tech -3.5 (Play to -4.5)
