Towson vs Kansas College Basketball Betting Preview

Towson Basketball

Towson has played better than expected this season, and the Tigers' defense has been what's carried this bunch.

We've seen the Tigers play up in competition against Houston, Rhode Island, Liberty and UCF this season, with strong showings most of the way.

Tyler Tejada is a proficient scorer out of the post and Dylan Williamson is a solid ball handler who runs the point efficiently.

Towson plays really aggressive defense while limiting second-chance opportunities. The Tigers are also excellent when it comes to defending without fouling.

Towson is one of the slowest teams in the country, and I would anticipate we see a snail's pace in this game.

Kansas Basketball

Kansas has struggled while playing some of the more elite college basketball teams in the nation.

But the Jayhawks have started to find their groove with back-to-back victories over Missouri and NC State.

Bill Self has this defense playing really well, as the Jayhawks contest everything at the rim and excel at blocking and altering shots.

This is going to be a fun defensive battle between one of the best units in the CAA lining up against one of the best units in the entire country.

Towson vs. Kansas Betting Analysis

I'm looking at the under here.

Kansas has a swarming defense that's done well to contest everything and ranks eighth nationally in overall defensive field goal percentage.

The Jayhawks have forced their opponents into low-percentage 3-point shots and make every opponent uncomfortable operating in the half court.

Flory Bidunga and Bryson Tiller have a combined 42 blocked shots, and I would expect these two will have a significant impact on how Towson operates.

The Tigers want to work through Tejada down low, but I could see Towson struggling to get the ball into him on the block and having to work the possession to get the shots it wants.

Other players are going to have to step up for Towson if it's going to score enough to stay in this one.

Kansas is going to have to work on the offensive end of the floor, as Towson plays sound defensive technique and the Tigers don't send their opponents to the line.

The Jayhawks rank just 243rd nationally in offensive rebound percentage and Towson is an excellent defensive rebounding team, so I would anticipate that second-chance possessions are at a minimum.

Both of these teams are in the bottom 100 in terms of adjusted tempo, with Towson playing the fourth-slowest tempo in the entire country. With how these defenses get back in transition, we should see minimal opportunities to run in the open court.

I have this one playing out at 62 total possessions, a total crawl. The defenses are going to step up here and have a major impact on this game.

I expect Towson to hang around for 30 minutes, but the Jayhawks should pull away, which will allow us to avoid late-game fouling.

My Pick: Under 136
