Miami vs Pitt Preview
Miami Hurricanes Betting Preview: Fighting to Stay Alive
From No. 2 in the country to now on the outside looking in for the College Football Playoff picture.
That's reality for Miami right now — but with a win this week and a little bit of help, the Hurricanes can still reach the ACC Championship game, as well as the CFP.
In fact, they'll have an at-large case for the playoff with a win, even if they miss the ACC title game.
Mario Cristobal's team could be a lot more relaxed had it taken care of business against Louisville and SMU, but the 'Canes let both of those games slip away late.
The strength of this team is its defense, which has been suffocating for most of the season.
Rueben Bain Jr. is as good as any defensive lineman in America and has been wreaking havoc in opposing backfields since the opening-night win over Notre Dame.
It’s been hard to run on Miami all season, so I don't expect Pittsburgh to attempt to run it much here.
That will make it imperative for the Canes' secondary to hold up against a talented Panther wide receiver corps. Miami needs to take away the big play and force Pitt to move the ball down the field methodically.
When Miami has the ball, balance in the passing and running game will be key to taking some pressure off Carson Beck.
Beyond that, the Hurricanes need to do a better job in the red zone — an area that plagued them in the loss to SMU.
Quarterback Carson Beck taking care of the football will also be of utmost importance.

Pitt Panthers Betting Preview: Offense Finally Clicking
It's been an up-and-down season for Pittsburgh, but things have been trending far more positively of late.
Pat Narduzzi's team has won six of seven, with the only loss coming at home to Notre Dame.
In each of those six wins, the Panthers have scored 30-plus points, largely dominating opposing defenses.
A lot of that offensive uptick is due to the quarterback change to freshman Mason Heintschel.
The youngster has pretty much been unflappable since taking over and has thrown for nearly 2,000 yards and 14 touchdowns in just seven starts.
It sounds like Heintschel will have one of his top weapons back for this game in Desmond Reid, who missed last week's contest against Georgia Tech due to a leg injury.
Reid gives the Panther offense a different level of explosiveness and is capable of hitting a home run every time he touches the ball.
The Pittsburgh offensive line will need to do a good job of pass protection to give Heintschel time to find his receivers, as Miami has an elite front four but can be beaten in the secondary.
On the other side of the ball, Narduzzi has never shied away from bringing pressure and being aggressive.
That will likely remain the case this week against a Miami offense that has been a bit Jekyll-and-Hyde.
Carson Beck is a much more efficient passer when he has a clean pocket, as he's been careless with the ball when hurried.
Pitt will be well aware of this, and I expect many exotic blitzes aimed at getting the 'Canes off schedule.

Miami vs Pitt Pick, Betting Analysis
It's going to be cold and frigid on Saturday afternoon at Acrisure Field, and I believe that plays to Pitt's advantage.
Both teams clearly have a ton on the line in this game, but Miami will not be used to heading north and playing in these conditions.
Coach Narduzzi got mocked by everyone when he said he'd be fine losing to Notre Dame by 100 as long as he won the next two.
Maybe he was onto something.
I think the Panther defense will give Beck problems with some disguised blitzes, and I expect to see the Georgia transfer turn it over a few times.
I have a hunch Pitt pulls off the outright upset, so I'll gladly back the Panthers catching a full touchdown at home in what should be a rowdy atmosphere on Black Friday.
Pick: Pitt +6 or Better
