You may be familiar with our weekly moneyline underdog article. Well, we decided a couple of years ago that we needed to show love for the other side by also sharing our two favorite college football favorites that we share weekly on the "Big Bets on Campus" podcast.
We affectionately refer to them as "overdogs," thanks to one of our beloved callers. To keep the chalk talk rolling this year, we're going with a Big Ten team that struggled in Week 1 and a national title contender from the same conference.
Let's dive into our Week 2 college football predictions and NCAAF picks for Miami (OH) vs. Rutgers and Oklahoma State vs, Oregon on Saturday, Sept. 6.
Week 2 College Football Predictions
Stuckey: Rutgers -15 vs. Miami (OH)
Miami (OH) Odds | ||
---|---|---|
Spread | Total | Moneyline |
+15.5 -110 | 45.5 -110o / -110u | +475 |
Rutgers Odds | ||
---|---|---|
Spread | Total | Moneyline |
-15.5 -110 | 45.5 -110o / -110u | -700 |
I like Rutgers in this one. Sure, it took a hit last week against Ohio, and its defense has been shaky. But special teams, which usually favor Miami (OH), could wash that defensive disadvantage out here.
That Miami (OH) offense looks lost, which is common this early in the season. I think Rutgers defense will bounce back after last week. We can bet head coach Greg Schiano will make some adjustments on that side of the ball.
Offensively, Rutgers can still put points on the board. Miami (OH) might try to clamp down on those explosive plays, but that’s not really the kind of offense Rutgers rolls with anyway.
I like how the Scarlet Knights offense has shaped up after it has scored 30-plus points in seven of its last eight games, going back to last season.
I’m not against taking Miami (OH) under on its team total, but overall, Rutgers covering the spread feels like the play here.
Collin Wilson: Oregon -27.5 vs. Oklahoma State
OK State Odds | ||
---|---|---|
Spread | Total | Moneyline |
+27.5 -108 | 55.5 -108o / -112u | +1800 |
Oregon Odds | ||
---|---|---|
Spread | Total | Moneyline |
-27.5 -112 | 55.5 -108o / -112u | -5000 |
Let’s kick things off with Oregon. I project the Ducks as 34-point favorites over Oklahoma State, but it sits at 27.5 at multiple books. If you’re shopping lines, that’s probably where you want to look.
I’ve heard enough from Dan Lanning over the years when he’s dropping these subtle digs about what it means to have a program that spends money versus one that doesn’t. It’s clear he was referring to Oklahoma State when he made those comments.
And if you’ve listened closely to his tone, you know when he’s ready to take control and put on a show. In this case, it feels like Oregon is set to do just that.
I like Oregon to cover that spread comfortably, but keep an eye out for the best number because that could play a big role in the final score.
