Pai Gow Poker is a variation of poker that has captured casino-goers' interest with its mix of strategy and chance.

While it's a game where odds are usually stacked against players, a recent event at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno, Nevada, has shown that anything is possible.

The two players, identified only by their first names, Arnell and Quinlin, did the seemingly impossible by hitting consecutive seven-card straight flushes, winning big progressive jackpots.

The casino posted a picture of the lucky pair on its X account holding their oversized checks:

The post's description read: "1 in 45 BILLION odds and it happened at the Atlantis! Our guest Arnel hit a Pai Gow Poker Progressive Jackpot with a 7 card straight flush On the NEXT HAND Our guest Quinlin hit a Pai Gow Poker Progressive Jackpot with ANOTHER 7 card straight flush. Congrats to these two!"

The win is reminiscent of another incredible Pai Gow Poker jackpot that was awarded earlier this month in Las Vegas. It also reminded us of the woman who hit a seven card straight flush playing Pai Gow in California, recently.

The Incredible Stroke of Luck

Here's how this improbable turn of events turned an ordinary day at the tables into a memorable one.

Arnell was the first to hit a seven-card straight flush. He won an impressive progressive jackpot of $183,946. Just when you thought lightning couldn’t strike twice, it did.

The decks were switched out, the cards reshuffled, and then Quinlin hit an unbelievable seven-card straight flush on the very next hand.  This win yielded a $90,002 prize.

While the casino estimated the chances of this happening at 1 in 45 billion, such consecutive winning hands have estimated odds as high as 1 in 77.4 billion, making this event an extraordinary occurrence.

Incredible as it may seem, two years ago at the Atlantis, a guest won over $14 million on a Megabucks slot machine, which became the largest slot jackpot in Reno's history. At this rate, the Atlantis might have to change its motto to "Go Big or Go Home."

How to Play Pai Gow Poker

For those intrigued by such stories and interested in learning the game, Pai Gow Poker is a casino card game combining elements of the ancient Chinese game Pai Gow and the American game of poker. Here's how you play:

  1. Objective: Players aim to create two poker hands—a five-card hand and a two-card hand—from seven cards dealt. The five-card hand must be stronger than the two-card hand.
  2. Gameplay:
  • Players place their bets and receive seven cards each.
  • They must arrange these cards into the two hands: a "high" hand (five cards) and a "low" hand (two cards).
  • Once set, players’ hands are compared to the dealer’s. To win, the player’s "high" and "low" hands must be better than the dealer’s corresponding hands.
  1. Winning: Players win if both hands exceed the dealer's hands. If they split, one win and one loss, the round is a push, and the player's bet is returned.

The excitement surrounding Pai Gow is evident through recent jackpot successes and the continuous buzz at casinos nationwide.

Whether a novice or an experienced player, Pai Gow Poker offers the chance to engage with a complex, strategic game that can sometimes result in life-changing wins.
