Another week, another $10 million-plus lit on fire in Circa Survivor/Circa Survivor Grandissimo. That’ll happen when three popular selections suffer upset losses.
And just two weeks into the NFL season, Circa Survivor has already seen 16,407 entries eliminated (65.6%) from the record field of 25,017. So 8,610 entries now pursue the record pot of $25.017 million.
The Buccaneers did the bulk of the Week 2 damage, as the second-most-chosen team at 6,061, not far behind the 49ers (6,741). Tampa Bay, an 8.5-point favorite, then went on to lose outright vs. Cleveland 24-19, with the final two minutes playing out after a two-hour weather delay.
For the second straight week, the Chargers were a killer, too. In Week 1, L.A. was the most-selected team, and 7,581 entries busted after the Bolts’ loss to the Cardinals. In Week 2, the Chargers (-6.5) were the third-most-selected team and fell to the Raiders 26-14, eliminating 1,357 entries.
And the Ravens (-8.5) sent another 835 entries packing with their 24-17 outright loss to the Saints. So that’s 8,953 departures off those three results.
Jeff Benson, director of operations for Circa Sports, summed it up well:
“Week 2 said: ‘Hold my beer.’ An insane sweat for Bucs backers, with the weather delay. And then you add another Chargers chargering moment on top of it.
“And here we are, with two-thirds of the field eliminated before Week 2 has even concluded.”
The damage wasn’t limited to just Circa Survivor, which costs $1,000 per entry. The high-stakes Circa Grandissimo, at $100,000 a pop, saw 14 entries fall with the Bucs, four exit with the Ravens, and one with the Chargers.
So that’s $8.953 million out of Survivor and $1.9 million out of Grandissimo, for a total of $10.853 million. That tops the $10.3 million Week 1 incineration from the Chargers’ loss.
Heading into Sunday night’s Chiefs–Colts game, Circa Grandissimo had 30 entries remaining, down from an original 77, still chasing a $7.7 million prize.
