The 98th Academy Awards (Oscars 2026) will be held at the prestigious Dolby Theatre in Hollywood (Los Angeles, California), kicking off at 7 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 15th.
There are 10 total nominees for the Academy Award for Best Picture, although many believe it's actually a two-horse race between Paul Thomas Anderson's 'One Battle After Another' and Ryan Coogler's 'Sinners'.
According to the current Kalshi odds, One Battle After Another is the frontrunner to win the 2026 Academy Award for Best Picture.
Does Coogler's first original blockbuster have what it takes to supersede some of Anderson's finest work yet? Many trading on the Kalshi app don't seem to think so, as One Battle After Another has been trading over 70% since early February.

Oscar For Best Picture: Live Odds On Kalshi

Note: Like many prediction markets apps, Kalshi verifies the official results through legitimate sources. In this case, the outcome will be verified using data from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The Overwhelming Favorite: One Battle After Another
While there are a few reasons supporting the popularity of One Battle After Another on Kalshi, one stands above the rest: Paul Thomas Anderson is due. The veteran filmmaker has never won an Oscar, despite being nominated for an Academy Award 14 times, dating back to 1998.
In fact, the 2026 Oscars will be his fourth nomination for Best Picture as well as 'Best Director', and his third for 'Best Adapted Screenplay'. Some believe his history of being snubbed stems from prioritizing artistic value over box-office appeal, but regardless, 2026 seems to be his best chance yet.
Beyond Anderson, the cast of One Battle After Another is about as star-studded as they come, featuring the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, and fast-rising star 25-year-old Chase Infiniti. Critics seemed to enjoy it as well, as the film garnered a Metacritic metascore of 95 and a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Unfortunately, One Battle After Another could potentially just be another thematically strong Anderson picture that simply didn't appeal enough to the masses. From a box-office standpoint, the film needed to gross $300 million worldwide to be considered a success, but it barely surpassed $200 million.
Historically, box office numbers have had very little impact on Best Picture winners at past Oscars, but can be costly if the movie is considered a 'flop'. In this case, One Battle After Another loses some steam, as it barely broke even, given its high production budget (estimated at $175 million).
Overall, One Battle After Another is dominating the Oscar for Best Picture market on Kalshi, but contrarian trades are certainly still worth considering.

The Academy Award For Best Picture: Other Kalshi Trades To Consider
There are a handful of other interesting choices that could be shrewd trades to win the Oscar for Best Picture. On Kalshi, Sinners had been duking it out with Hamnet before pulling ahead and staying there in early January.
Since then, Sinners has been trading between 15% and 25%, whereas Hamnet has remained firmly below 10%. Ryan Coogler burst onto the motion picture scene in a big way with his debut feature-length film 'Fruitvale Station' back in 2013, and has an impressive resume that includes 'Black Panther' and 'Judas and the Black Messiah'.
Like Anderson, Coogler is up for both Best Picture and Best Director, with a strong shot to take home either despite never previously winning an Oscar. Sinners scored 97% on Rotten Tomatoes and even had a 96% Popcornmeter score based on over 25,000 verified ratings, far higher than One Battle After Another's 85% Popcornmeter score.
To top it all off, Sinners is one of the highest-grossing films of the 2020s, taking home roughly $370 million globally despite a budget of around $90-100 million.
If you're thinking of trading against the field on Kalshi, Sinners is a great pick. We're certainly looking forward to seeing how this all shakes out.

What Is Kalshi?
Kalshi allows users to make predictions across several unique markets, including sports, entertainment, elections, awards shows like the Oscars, and even weather. Unlike traditional sportsbooks, which are available in only a handful of states, Kalshi is available across most of the US.
Kalshi operates on a contract-based system in which users buy "contracts" (priced between 1 and 99 cents) based on whether they believe a specific event will occur. The price of each contract fluctuates in real time based on market sentiment. Like the stock market, traders can sell positions early to lock in profits (or minimize losses).
