Kraken vs Capitals Pick

Washington is a -220 favorite at home today, and the Caps should have plenty of scoring chances to work with. Seattle has been fine overall, but the Kraken have given up opportunities in bunches.

Seattle allowed six goals at home to Vegas on Tuesday and ranks 26th in the league in expected goals against.

A 6-3 win in Detroit on Friday was a good response, but Washington is the much better team here, and I expect them to show. I’ll take the Caps in regulation at -140 instead of paying the full-game price.

Cole Hutson is a nice way to play the same idea. He has 12 points in 18 career games, and he’s plus money to add another today. If Washington generates chances like I expect, a puck-moving defenseman with his talent is too good to pass up at these odds.

Pick: Capitals 60-Minute Moneyline (-135, bet365) | Cole Hutson 1+ Points (+135, bet365)

Canucks vs Rangers Pick

Losing Igor Shesterkin is about as bad as it gets for the Rangers. New York went 25-19-6 with him in net last season and just 9-20-3 without him. With backup Joonas Korpisalo also out for another four weeks, Dylan Garand gets the net for the time being.

Garand has been solid in his two appearances, posting a .971 save percentage and a shutout against Detroit a little over a week ago. He also draws a friendly matchup tonight.

Vancouver is playing its second game in as many days after a 4-1 loss to New Jersey yesterday afternoon, and the Canucks’ defense has struggled about as much as everyone expected.

A schedule with Edmonton twice and Carolina hasn’t helped, but Vancouver has still allowed the most high-danger shots in the league and ranks fourth-worst in expected goals against per 60.

New York added some offensive help this offseason in Pavel Dorofeyev, Oliver Bjorkstrand and others, and that group may have to carry more of the load. It’ll be interesting to see how this version of the Rangers adapts, but without Igor in net and a softer matchup tonight, I think this one opens up.

I like the total to get past 5.5.

Pick: Over 5.5 (-138, FanDuel)

Hurricanes vs Flyers Pick

It’s tough to find much going right in Philadelphia right now. The Flyers are 0-4-2 and have yet to find the win column, getting outscored 24-7 and outshot 216-121. Philly also ranks last in the league in both expected-goal share (34.19%) and expected goals against per 60. Saturday’s 5-1 loss in Boston didn’t do anything to help matters.

Both teams are on the second half of a back-to-back, with Carolina coming off a 5-2 win in Chicago last night that pushed its win streak to four straight. Brandon Bussi and Dan Vladar both started yesterday, so it’s possible we will see Pyotr Kochetkov and Joseph Woll in net tonight.

Woll has been solid, posting a .927 save percentage across three appearances. Kochetkov is at .895 through two starts, but he has a much better structure in front of him than Woll, whose Flyers have been outshot by nearly 100 this season.

The Canes should get plenty of looks, and Jackson Blake is my guy to cash in. He’s picked up a point in five of six games this season and has multiple points in each of the last two.

The chemistry Blake’s line found last season is still rolling. Taylor Hall scored again last night, and Logan Stankoven picked up an assist along with a hat trick on Thursday against Vancouver.

Against a Flyers team that hasn’t been able to keep anyone out of its zone, I’ll ride the streak.

Pick: Jackson Blake 1+ Points (-132, FanDuel)
