2020 U.S. Open First Round Leader Odds: Favorites Hold Down Top of Leaderboard After Morning Wave

The usual suspects occupy the U.S. Open leaderboard on Thursday — Justin Thomas is -5, and Patrick Reed pulled into the clubhouse at -4, with Rory McIlroy right behind at -3.

Thomas was 25-1 to lead after the first round at DraftKings.

Amateur Davis Thompson, a junior at the University of Georgia, stormed out to an early lead in the opening round at -4 through 11 holes, but fell back on the back nine. He closed about 250-1 to have the lead after Thursday's round and 600-1 to win the tournament.

First-round leader bets have become increasingly popular over the last few years since they offer big payouts in a short window.

FRL odds are typically correlated with odds to win the tournament. But the favorites have slightly longer odds to lead after Round 1 and the longshots have slightly shorter odds, given the variance that can come with one round.
