Jordan Spieth remained in contention at his hometown AT&T Byron Nelson on Friday, posting a 4-under 67 in the second round.
Is there value in fading Spieth on Saturday, though?
Recent history says yes — emphatically.
Let’s get to our matchup bets for the third round.
Matt Jones over Jordan Spieth (+105)
12:04 p.m. ET
Spieth’s solid second round was to be expected. He ranks third on the PGA Tour this season in Friday scoring average, so this was nothing new. It will, however, be something new if he continues going low on the weekend. He ranks outside the top-200 in both third- and final-round scoring. Until we see him overcome this history, Spieth is an easy weekend fade.
Matt Every over Sung Kang (+115)
12:40 p.m. ET
On Friday, Every posted a solid 65, which only paled in comparison to the 61 carded by Kang. Uncommonly low rounds are brutally difficult to chase, so unless you see Kang running away with this thing on the weekend, it stands to reason that the four-stroke leader will start coming back to the pack.
Beau Hossler over Michael Thompson (-105)
12:16 p.m. ET
It hasn’t been the greatest season for Hossler so far, but I was surprised to see him as a slight underdog in this matchup on his home track, even against a resurgent Thompson. Though he’ll start the weekend seven off the lead, I don’t think Hossler is a terrible add as a live outright bet, as familiar surroundings could lead to that long-awaited first victory.
