For my Wednesday MLB player props, I'll be looking into a pair of hitters in Cody Bellinger and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Additionally, I will again be backing Hunter Brown and the Astros as they look to take another game in Colorado.
Let's dive into my MLB player prop picks for the MLB games on Wednesday, July 2.
MLB Player Props for July 2, 2025
- Cody Bellinger Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + Runs Batted In (-130, Fanatics)
- Hunter Brown Over 6.5 Strikeouts (-125, DraftKings)
- Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + Runs Batted In (-120, BetMGM)
Yankees vs Blue Jays Props: Cody Bellinger Looks to Stay Hot
Cody Bellinger got off to a slow start as he entered May hitting just .196. He had big shoes to fill as one of the replacements for Juan Soto. However, his bat has perked up of late.
Over the last two weeks, Bellinger is hitting .365 with six runs scored, four doubles, three home runs, seven runs batted in, and .993 OPS. He enters tonight's game riding a seven-game hitting streak and he has a hit in 11 of his last 12 games as well. Interestingly enough, Bellinger has been better against left-handed pitching this season.
However, one right-hander he enjoys facing is Jose Berrios as he is 4-for-6 with a home run and two RBI. Berrios has allowed 14 extra base hits and a .243 opposing batting average to left-handed hitters. Another factor in this matchup: Berrios has allowed five home runs to Aaron Judge, who Bellinger has been batting in front of lately.
You would think he will want to buckle down against Bellinger and keep him off base to face Judge with the bases empty (if he gets the leadoff man as well), but that could also lead to a mistake to Bellinger. If Bellinger gets on, Judge can knock him in or he can leave the yard himself. Bellinger is +550 for a home run tonight and he has two in his last three games.
Astros vs Rockies Player Props: Hunter Brown in Smash Spot
Last night, we cashed on the Astros as they tagged Chase Dollander for six earned runs in 2 and 2/3 innings. Hitting conditions at Coors Field look good tonight- as they often are. However, the Rockies will have a tough assignment against Hunter Brown tonight.
Brown ranks in the 93rd percentile with a 32.1% strikeout rate this season. Brown is seventh in the MLB with 118 strikeouts in 98 innings. He has fanned nine or more in six of his last 10 starts, going over this line in seven starts in that span. Two of three starts he has failed to reach seven strikeouts of late were both against Tampa and I suspect he will not have to worry about Yandy Diaz or Junior Caminero tonight.
Brown struck out seven in six scoreless innings against Colorado last season. It is worth noting that start was at home. However, Brown is in position to dominate again as this group of Rockies leads the MLB in strikeout rate. Brenton Doyle has struck out twice in each of his last two games and he is 0-for-5 with four strikeouts against Brown. He is one of five Rockies with 75+ strikeouts already this season along with Ryan McMahon, Michael Toglia, Jordan Beck, and Hunter Goodman.
Brown could get seven strikeouts just against those five hitters. However, given his propensity to exceed his lines, Brown's ladder is also worth considering. You can play him for eight strikeouts at +160, nine strikeouts at +310, and 10 strikeouts at +600 on DraftKings.
Giants vs Diamondbacks Player Props: Gurriel’s Track Record Makes Him a Strong Target
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. was recently marred in a 4-for-29 slump. However, suddenly, that has flipped to him recording a hit in each of his last three games. That includes a home run in each of the first two games in this series. Gurriel is up to 12 home runs on the year.
Whether in San Francisco or Arizona, the Giants are a team that Gurriel loves to face. In his career, Gurriel is hitting .350 with four home runs, 15 RBI, 10 runs scored, and a .957 OPS in 26 games against the Giants. He has a hit in 13 of his last 14 games against the Giants and he has cleared this line in 12 of them.
Tonight, he will face Landen Roupp, who has pitched to a 3.43 ERA in 81 and 1/3 innings. However, many of those innings have been stressful as the 26-year-old has a 1.44 WHIP. Gurriel is 1-for-1 with a single against him. He has cleared this line in each of his last three games. If his track record against the Giants continues, that streak will continue.
