Pistons vs Timberwolves NBA Preview

After the Pistons snapped their playoff drought last season, they earned a bit more visibility in terms of national TV games. They have surprised many in earning the No. 1 seed, which has added a few more national TV games, including today's game against the Timberwolves.

This one was likely in anticipation of a Cade Cunningham vs. Anthony Edwards matchup.

Cunningham played himself into the forefront of the MVP race and has a signature shoe on the way as part of his Nike deal.

Meanwhile, Edwards has led the Timberwolves to the Western Conference Finals in each of the last two years and is an emerging face of Adidas.

Unfortunately, Cunningham suffered a collapsed lung after a fall against the Wizards while Edwards is dealing with a right knee injury. They are both in danger of falling short of the 65-game requirement for All-NBA selections and other awards.

However, this still may shape up to be a dandy of a game. At 2.5 points, it has the closest spread on today's slate.

The Pistons are 9-3 without Cunningham this season and are 4-1 without him during his latest injury. Jalen Duren is making a late push for All-NBA himself.

Since the All-Star break, Duren is averaging 23.7 points and 11 rebounds while shooting 66% from the field. He is probable for tonight's game along with Tobias Harris and Ausar Thompson, and Duncan Robinson is questionable.

Without Edwards, Minnesota has had a balanced attack. Bones Hyland has had 15 points in four of his last games, Ayo Dosunmu has scored 17 points in five straight games, and Julius Randle has scored 20 points in four of his last six games.

They have won four of their last five games without Edwards, Wednesday's overtime victory over the Rockets being the most improbable. Tonight, they will be without Jaden McDaniels and Dosunmu in addition to Edwards.

Pistons vs Timberwolves Best Bet

Due to the uncertainty of the injury report, the total has come down a few points. However, there may be value on the Over now.

While this is the first meeting this season, four of the last five meetings in this series have gone Over, and three of them had a total of 225 points or more.

Additionally, the Pistons are 7-3 to the Over their past 10 games.

Pick: Over 223.5 (-110, Fanatics)

Pistons vs Timberwolves Predictions, Betting Analysis

Jalen Duren 30+ Points & Rebounds

Duren has combined for 30 points and rebounds in eight of his last 10 games and finished with 29 in one of the misses.

While he has a difficult assignment today against Rudy Gobert, other big men such as Oso Ighodaro, Donovan Clingan, and Alperen Sengun have cleared their lines against Minnesota recently, with the latter two both surpassing 30 PR.

Daniss Jenkins 7+ Assists

Duren temporarily has a new pick-and-roll partner, and Daniss Jenkins is averaging 19.8 points and eight assists over his past five games.

He has recorded seven assists in six of his last seven games and in nine of 12 games without Cunningham this season.

Julius Randle 20+ Points

In 15 games without Edwards this season, Randle is averaging 24.6 points per game.

He has also scored 20 points in two of his last three games against the Pistons.

Bones Hyland 15+ Points

The Timberwolves will also need more scoring from Hyland with the team shorthanded today.

He is averaging 17.8 points over his past five games, and I like him for 15 today.
