RotoGrinders projections have Sheppard’s u5.5 RA popping assuming the Rockets play more of a big lineup. He’ll lineup run the second unit but I agree there’s a wide range of outcomes here so let’s embrace the uncertainty on opening night.

Houston already led the league in rebounding rate by a decent margin last season. They finished at 53.5% in the regular season, and no other team was above 52%. Now, they're trotting out the double-big lineup. Steven Adams will draw the start tonight. With Adams on the floor last season (796 minutes), Houston had a 59.2% (!!) rebounding rate. Hartenstein averaged 10.7 rebounds per game last season, but that number was inflated by Chet Holmgren's injury absence. He averaged 9 rebounds in 20 games with Holmgren available.

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️: My DraftKings #KingOfTheCourt best bet for opening night. OKC had rebounding issues even with bigs available. Sengun’s rebounds and assists went up without Jalen last year per possession. I think this is a breakout season and it starts tonight, even if I like OKC to cover.

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️: Buckets podcast three-star bet for opening night. Western Conference home opener favorites of more than a possession (<-4 spread) are 11-6 in the last five seasons. Rockets’ biggest weakness right now is ball handling. Not great going up against the velociraptors on OKC’s wings. More for Houston to figure out.

KD makes his Rockets debut in a tough matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night. Durant will provide championship pedigree and a clear go to scoring threat that they did not have prior to his acquisition. Durant is a lethal scorer, and without Fred VanVleet, he will be leaned on more than originally anticipated for finishing off possessions and spacing the floor. KD averaged 26.6 ppg last season and scored 28, 20, and 26 against the Thunder. Here, I think there is an even greater need for his scoring ability than with the Suns and Devin Booker and Bradley Beal. His Usage should be sky high when he is on the floor and I expect him to make a splash in his debut.

Houston Rockets 2023-24 Season

The Houston Rockets enter the 2023-2024 NBA season with a focus on their rebuilding efforts. After a challenging period, the team is looking to develop their young talent and build a foundation for future success. Their preseason performances have shown glimpses of promise as their young players gain valuable experience.

Jalen Green, the Rockets' high-flying rookie, has generated significant excitement with his scoring ability. Alongside other emerging talents like Alperen Sengun and Amen Thompson, the Rockets are investing in their youth.

In the preseason, they have demonstrated potential, although consistency will be a key challenge. The Rockets are unlikely to be top contenders this season but will aim to compete and develop their players.

As they navigate this transitional phase, Houston's focus remains on the future. While their preseason may not suggest immediate championship contention, the Rockets are building the groundwork for a brighter tomorrow.

Betting on the Houston Rockets

The Houston Rockets will likely be underdogs in the rest of their games this season, but they could still make for some interesting bets. Here are the common bet types to look out for with the Rockets.

  • Moneyline
  • Point Spred
  • Over/Under
  • Props
  • Futures Odds

Rockets Moneylines

A famous wager type is the moneyline, which is a bet on which team will win a game outright. The margin doesn't matter.

Let's look at another Rockets example:

  • Houston Rockets +230
  • Dallas Mavericks -290

The Rockets are underdogs again, but the number instead of being a margin refers to the payout structure. In these American odds, think in increments of $10 or $100. A bet on the Rockets moneyline, if they were to win the game, would profit $23 for every $10 invested. Contrastingly, a Mavericks ML bet would require $29 to win $10.

Rockets Spreads

A spread bet is a type of wager that is all about the margin of victory in a game. Let's discuss an example with the Rockets:

The Rockets in this hypothetical game are 7.5-point underdogs, which you can tell by the plus sign next to their name. That means a spread bet on them doesn't need them to win, although that would cash the bet. Even if they lost but did so by seven or fewer points, those bets would be winners.

Rockets Over/Unders

One thing that you’re sure to see in Rockets games is points. Houston’s over/under bet will be popular this season.

Say the Rockets played the Spurs and the over/under was 231 points. At 230 or fewer points at the conclusion of the game, under bettors would win. If the teams combined for 232 or more, over bettors would cash. It's possible, of course, for 231 to be hit exactly, which is called a push.

Rockets Prop Bets

While spreads, moneylines, and over/unders are the most common bets, props are quite fun and vast in their offerings. These types of bets can be focused on a player or something specific to happen in a game. For example, you can bet on John Wall to record a double-double. Another example might be which team in a Rockets game will get to 20 points first.

Rockets Future Odds

Expectations are down in Houston with James Harden's departure, but that doesn't bettors can't shop for the best line to get good odds on Rockets futures bets. Futures are bets that focus on long-term outcomes, like the Rockets to make the playoffs, win the Southwest Division, win the Western Conference, win the NBA Finals, or even individual awards like Jalen Green one day winning league MVP.

How to Bet on the Rockets

Sports betting is not currently legal in Texas, and there does not seem to be much in the way of progress for it to be legalized in 2022; however, if you wish to bet on the Houston Rockets from one of the states where sports betting is legal, you may check this BetMGM Bonus Code. Texas politicians have been largely opposed to sports betting in recent years, but sentiment within the state could be shifting, and most expect that any potential legislation could be voted on in the 2023 state general election at the earliest. Stay tuned for updates on The Action Network's Texas betting page regarding sports betting legislation in the state.
