There’s just two more weeks left in the college baseball season, and the race to the postseason is in its final lap.
For those fringe tournament teams, it’s time to shapen up the resume.
To Kansas State and NC State, that means axing midweek buy games against teams who would hurt their RPI even with a win. Gotta love May college baseball.
With games of real significance to the NCAA Tournament on tap, let’s go to a real heavy hitter for Wednesday night’s college baseball best bet.
The Virginia Tech Hokies take on the Liberty Flames in a college baseball battle at 6 p.m. ET on Wednesday, May 6. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Liberty enters as a -188 favorite on the moneyline and at -1.5 (+105). Virginia Tech, meanwhile, comes in at +145 on the moneyline and is +1.5 (-135) on the run line. The over/under sits at 13 total runs.
Here are my college baseball picks and Virginia Tech vs. Liberty predictions for Wednesday, May 6.

Virginia Tech vs Liberty Prediction
Both Liberty and Virginia Tech are officially on bubble watch. D1Baseball projects both to make it to a Regional, but Virginia Tech needs some help, as it currently hovers around .500.
Conference USA projects to be a three-bid league with Liberty, Jacksonville State and Missouri State making the cut as of Tuesday.
But that can change quickly if Liberty picks up a few more losses along the way and doesn’t perform to expectation in the Conference USA Tournament.
Liberty’s last seven midweeks are about as impressive as impressive gets:
- 7-5 win over NC State
- 11-4 win over Virginia Tech
- 17-7 win at Duke
- 13-10 win over Duke again
- 5-4 loss to Virginia on a back-to-back
- 12-2 win over Charlotte
The Flames are very real.
The concern here is with Liberty pitcher Jackson Evans moving to Sundays. He threw three innings in a 7-4 win over New Mexico State just 48 hours ago, and it’s unlikely he goes tonight.
Liberty hasn’t named a starter, and Evans has been the guy since the start of the season.
Liberty’s pitching staff as a whole is dynamite. It ranks 15th nationally in xFIP and 20th in walk rate (just 8.7%).
Though Evans leaves a sizeable gap in the weeknight starting role, I anticipate the Flames use their depth to power through this one.
Pick: Liberty ML -170 (bet365)
