The sun is beginning to set on the college baseball regular season, with just three weeks left until conference tournament play.

But that means the race to the postseason is really heating up, and teams are taking on dramatic trajectories. We’re in for a heck of a final stretch.

It also means teams potentially on the cusp of postseason play need to start making noise in the nonconference.

We’ll get some stolen bids during tournament play, but bubble teams need to minimize the midweek losses the selection committee can point to in order to keep them out. I predict we’ll see fewer midweek upsets.

So, let’s zig while underdog-seekers zag.

I have a Wednesday night moneyline parlay that goes against two popular underdog picks, so let's dive into my college baseball picks and NCAA baseball predictions for Wednesday, April 29.

  • Florida State vs. USF (4 p.m. ET · ACC Network Extra)
  • Pitt vs. Kent State (6 p.m. ET · ACC Network Extra)

Florida State continues its journey on the schneid, having dropped its entire series at Stanford (perhaps a result of the cross-country travel), deepening its road losing streak to six.

Combine that with a sub-.500 record against Quad 1 and Quad 2 teams, and you’re getting FSU at a discount tonight.

The Seminoles are much more comfortable in Tallahassee, emphasized by their 20-3 home record.

USF has quality wins on its ledger, most notably a 4-2 midweek upset over Miami, but power ratings like DSR, Massey and RPI all point to FSU. The Bulls will be a popular upset pick tonight, so we’re taking the other side.

In Game 2, the national focus around Kent State has waned since it nearly upset LSU and took two out of three at Tennessee back in February, but this is the same lethal Golden Flash ball club from then.

At 31-11, Kent State is in the driver’s seat for another postseason appearance. But midweek starter Gavin Jones has been atrocious, and Pitt jumped all over him early on, forcing him to sit after just 1 2/3 innings.

This should be a buy-low opportunity on Kent State after Pitt just swept Virginia, but instead, the Golden Flashes are overvalued despite losing to Pitt, 13-4, at home last month.

For what it's worth, Jones has surrendered 22 runs through 19 1/3 innings on the year, including four in the last matchup.

Pitt matches Kent State’s bats and likely gets off to a hot start. Last week, the Panthers dropped 23 runs on a quality West Virginia, including 16 by the fourth inning. The offense is lethal.

Pick: Florida State + Pitt ML Parlay (-101)
