Oklahoma vs. Georgia Pick
The Oklahoma Sooners got their revenge on Kentucky yesterday and have now earned themselves a date with the Georgia Bulldogs.
However, the Sooners are likely to have an ace up their sleeve, quite literally.
Kyson Witherspoon is expected to take the ball for Oklahoma, and he swings the line in their favor. Witherspoon has been lights-out, pitching to a 2.48 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP over 14 starts, and he has shown no signs of regression.
He's also no stranger to this Georgia team, as he dominated the Dawgs back in April. Witherspoon pitched seven innings and struck out eight batters while allowing just one run.
The key will be getting Witherspoon some run support, as the Sooners ended the regular season cold at the dish.
While the Bulldogs were one of the better pitching staffs in the country, I'm not expecting them to match with their ace, Brian Curley.
No other Georgia starter compares to Witherspoon, so with the bullpens being even as well, there's clear value on Oklahoma to pull off an upset.
Pick: Oklahoma ML +123
Kansas State vs. Houston Pick
In the nightcap of the first day of the Big 12 Tournament, the Kansas State Wildcats take on the Houston Cougars. While starting pitchers haven't been released as of writing, we can expect some offensive fireworks.
The Wildcats should lead the dance. Their lineup was above-average in all areas this season, ranking 61st in OPS and 72nd in wRC+.
They should be able to get the Cougars' pitching staff, which posted a 5.49 staff ERA on the season.
On the other side of this matchup, the Wildcats' pitching is their primary concern in this tournament. Over the course of the season, they put up a staff ERA of 5.72 and a WHIP of 1.53.
Those types of numbers should give life to a Houston lineup that was lackluster this season.
In the series between these two teams in late April, two of the three games went over 10 runs. The exception was the first game, where Jacob Frost dominated for K-State, but he's unlikely to get the ball on just three days' rest.
Take the over.
