BYU vs Oklahoma State College Basketball Betting Preview
BYU Basketball
BYU has been sliding of late, dropping three of its last four games, and now sits at 17-4 overall and 5-3 in Big 12 play.
Since January 10, BYU ranks 49th overall on Bart Torvik and eighth in the Big 12, while its defense ranks 13th in the conference.
As talented as scorers AJ Dybantsa and Robert Wright III can be, both have been inconsistent — at best — on the defensive end.
Darryn Peterson made it his mission to go after Dybantsa in the Kansas vs. BYU matchup and scored at will. Meanwhile, Wright has graded out as the worst defender in BYU’s starting lineup this season, giving up nearly a 50% effective field goal percentage.
Luckily for BYU, both can score the heck out of the basketball, and when you add Richie Saunders to the equation, you have one of the top "big threes" in college basketball.
All three players own an effective field goal percentage above 50%, with Saunders leading the group at 61.2%. He put that efficiency on display at Kansas, knocking down shots from deep and finishing dunks with his off hand in traffic.
They’ll look to carry that efficient scoring into Stillwater, Oklahoma, and end their two-game skid in a big way.
Oklahoma State Basketball
Oklahoma State is coming off a win at Utah that now puts the Cowboys at 15-6 overall and 3-5 in Big 12 play.
The Cowboys are led by Green Bay transfer Anthony Roy. He enters this matchup averaging 17.5 points per game on 46/44/88 shooting splits and has been one of the most underrated catch-and-shoot players in the country this season.
On the season, Roy ranks in the 97th percentile on catch-and-shoot jumpers (73% effective field goal percentage) and the 98th percentile on contested shots (76% effective field goal percentage).
Roy has recorded 13 games this season with three or more made 3-pointers, and he can thank Kanye Clary for much of that production.
Clary is a shifty guard who excels at collapsing defenses with his dribble penetration, allowing Roy to roam the perimeter and stay ready for clean catch-and-shoot opportunities.
BYU vs. Oklahoma State Betting Analysis
If you can’t tell by now, I like the over in this game.
Since January 10, BYU ranks 304th in defensive effective field goal percentage, while Oklahoma State ranks 328th.
Neither team has been able to stop anyone, especially as of late.
Both defenses are vulnerable to straight-line drives, which lead to layups or drive-and-kick 3s.
At the end of the day, BYU should win. Dybantsa will be aggressive, and Oklahoma State will continue to fire from deep against a BYU defense that's allowed opponents to shoot 40% from 3 over the last six games.
My Pick: Over 169.5
