Two teams are major factors in the race for the Mountain West Regular Season Champion. Then, there's another tier of secondary contenders, including some familiar faces near the top of the conference standings.
The two very heavy favorites are Utah State and San Diego State, both undefeated in conference play thus far. The Aggies and Aztecs have combined to claim at least a share of the Mountain West Regular Season Championship in six of the past eight seasons (dating back to 2018), so it's not surprising to see those two leading the way again.

Mountain West Regular Season Champion Odds
Behind Utah State and San Diego State, there are a few teams surging. New Mexico hadn't won the conference title since 2014, but then shared the title with Utah State in 2024 and shared it again with Colorado State in 2025.
However, the Lobos weren't expected to sustain that success this season, as head coach Richard Pitino departed the program to take the Xavier job before this season. Former UC San Diego head coach Eric Olen took over the job and has led New Mexico to just one conference loss and an undefeated record at home.
Nevada is in its seventh season under Steve Alford, and despite never winning the conference title under Alford, the Wolf Pack have made the NCAA Tournament in each of the past two seasons, and with one conference loss, Nevada looks like a strong MWC contender once again.
The wild cards in this race are Grand Canyon and UNLV. For the Lopes, it's their first season as a member of the MWC, and despite NCAA Tournament appearances in four of the past five seasons, there were doubts about how competitive this team would be against elevated competition.
For the Rebels, head coach Josh Pastner has inherited a program that was once elite, but that has fallen on tough times. Both Grand Canyon and UNLV have been competitive so far, but it remains to be seen if they can keep that up for an entire season.
